Oh Bailey, I didn't think I was ever going to get through that time when he would not eat, and woke up every 3 hours at night to pee.  Remember when I was ready to just throw in the towel. I am glad I did not, thanks to a lot of the encouragement here, plus 4 pleading children (the 5th wanted to get rid of the dog too...LOL).  He is still difficult with housebreaking, but he eats like a little champ and sleeps through the night, so I am happier.  Also, Mai Tai seems to love him.  If he makes it to 5 lbs, I will be very happy.  He may even get bigger, as either you or Cash has said.  Hope Bailey is well.  Have a good one.

Thanks Cash, I hope so.  I thought he could no longer fit through the bars in the gate in the kitchen, so I took the cardboard off.  I went for a walk with Mai Tai only to find Mojito having the run of the house when I got home, so I guess he can still squeeze through.  Now I have to find more cardboard....or should I just let him have the run of the house?  Nah, he is not dependable with the housebreaking at all.

Cash may get to be about 13 or so.  Mai Tai was about 11 pounds at 10 mos if my memory is correct, and now he is 14 and a half.  He too is solid, not fat, though all his fur makes him look even bigger.  He is so much more shih tzu that people often mistake him for one.

charlie is definitely more shih tzu than yorkie too. but most people will ask me if he is a cairn terrier when they see him! i guess he does kinda look like toto from the wizard of oz but i think he looks a lot more like the ewok, wicket, from star wars!!  Tongue

Karen I remember when you were almost ready to give him back to your friend...now look at him...I wonder if his housebreaking was delayed a bit due to the giarda....since it did affect his ability to gain weight..

Bailey does have some shih tzu features..her lenght, underbite, tail..her hair though is like a yorkies though...her face I'm not sure which breed she takes after more

I think Bailey looks like she has a more yorkie face, though not completely.  How about her ears?  I can't see from the photo posted (because I don't have my glasses on) whether her ears are against the side of her head and hanging like a Shih tzu's, and Mai Tai's, or whether they stick up and then flop over, like Mo's.  I think it looks like Mo's which are more yorkie.

I think Mo is delayed in housebreaking because he was such a mess.  I am treating him like a premature infant and expecting him to do things at a much later date, just like my girls did.  They were 2 and a half months premature, so I always factored that in when looking for milestones.  I am counting Mo as if he  were about 6 weeks or more behind.  It makes me feel less hopeless about the potty training.  He is doing better with it though.  A lot of it is my fault because with the two dogs and walking them separately for the most part, I don't have time to get him out as often as I should.  Bad Mommy...LOL

I just looked at her ears they don't stick up or anything so I guess more shih tzu....I just find it amazing that they are each sooo cute and soo different due to the 2 different breeds........

I give you all the credit in the world sticking with Mo with everything he has gone thru plus your raising 5 kids.....my daughter keeps wanting to get another pup since bailey is sooo good....she wants to pay for it and everything but I really don't feel like I want to...maybe if we had gotten 2 together but I'm just so afraid to get another on right now....maybe in the spring...who knows

Typically the Shitzu is big while Yorkies are small. So it can depend. But Shitzu's maximum weight would be no more then 15lbs.

Ricoh is just under a year old now and is about 12-13lbs - still seems so small to me - tough little guy though - play, play, play....

Wicket got weighed again...he's 4 1/2 months old and 5 lbs 9 oz. The lady who weighed him said she expected him to be about 10 pounds before she realized he's mostly fur!
