Look at the harness, where you hook on the leash there is a little metal ring.  That goes on a bit below your dogs neck, hold it up and from figure out where the it goes over the head, the put the leg or legs through and then it gets clipped together under the belly, hope this helps.  Also on using a collar just put it on with the leash and immediately take your dog outside, once outside they soon forget about the collar or leash at least I have found it so with my dog.  Good luck.

For small dogs, collars aren't really good.  I'd stick with the harness.  Put both front legs through, and hook it in front, then attach the collar to the ring.  The best harness I have ever gotten is a buddy belt.  Expensive, but well worth it.  You can basically pull the dog away from a threat without hurting it.

My vet says my dogs should be in harnesses, so I agree with Minnie.  That being said, they are usually in collars because putting on a harness is a pain in the a&&&&.  Good luck.

I use a harness!  The Lupine step in harnesses are super easy to get on and they have a lifetime replacement guarantee even if "chewed"!

Some Yorkie's have a weakness of the trachea and they can collapse easily. If your dog pulls on the leash  (and what pup won't) it puts pressure on the trachea. I found I could not walk Gracie without her gagging. I bought the Puppia step in harness for her and it is great. No part of the harness touches the delicate throat area and since it fastens on the upper back you still have good control over your dog. Some dogs can slip out of regular harness if they are an escape artiest. They cannot escape out of the Puppia step in vest harness. I strongly advise it especially for a puppy.

Can a harness be bought at Walmart. Probably not. We;re leaving a vacation and I just have a collar and leash for Angel. The want you have ellie did you order it over the internet or get it .at petmart are somewhere. I want to make sure she can't get out of it. We could probably find a Petsmart somewhere on the way. We're leaving in the morning around 4:30 a.m. Angel and I'm packed already. Just like girls we have too much packed. Ha Ha!

We use a harness too, we started out with just the collar but the puppies don't like when you put the lead on it so they use a harness now and it allows us to be able to stear them away from harm without pulling thier necks.  Also, they seem to like them better too.  We bought our harness at Petsmart, but I am sure you can buy one at Walmart, but not sure what kinds...good luck!!

I called the vet because I remembered they had collars and they said that they had harnesses that I should come over with Angel. They helped me find the right size for her. Its a Lupine harness which they step into. I really like it.

I actually bought Stormy's harness at Walmart and I loooove it. It's by Lulu Pink and it's super easy to put on unlike most harnesses. They're all girly, though.

Our local Walmart didn't have anything small enough for Gracie but maybe a bigger Walmart would. They did have some that were called a no pull harness. I haven't tried it but it sounds good to me. Little ones are really good at escaping so make sure you get the right size.
The Puppia step in vest harness can be ordered on ebay and Amazon.com and many other specialty pet stores. You google it and you'll find them. Hope you have a good time on your trip.

We got our harness at Wal-mart, it is the No Pull Harness.  We got the 2nd size for Terriers; however, they have smaller ones for tiny dogs.  It is great and is padded.  We have gone through three, the other got chewed, but this one is a great find and only $14

Hmmm, I got both harness at PetLand and leash. We used harness at begining, but she kept pulling even more. So my husband trained her on a leash. Now she does not pull, I guess it is not comfortable if she does. She will actually run along us (because she is soo small and takes small steps, but fast) while paying attention to where we are so she is kind of along our feet of just a step before us.
