WOW, I can't believe you groom her yourself!!  I am wondering, when do you guys start to get them groomed?  Like how old usually?  I like the puppy look, they are so cute, I am afraid to get them groomed.  LOL

You usually can't get them groomed until they have all of their shots which will be around 16 weeks. Stormy desperately needed to be groomed by the time she could finally be groomed so it didn't bother me ha. Poor thing couldn't even see with all of the hair in her face.

Yes make sure you have your puppy well protected with their vaccines before you have your puppy mix with any other dogs. :)

You can always get a good puppy shampoo and conditioner and bath your own pup. Most puppies need a bath when they first come home. Hanging around with a litter of puppies can get kind of stinky. Not to mention that many puppies like to play in their food. Combing them out and blowing them dry helps get them ready for finally going to the groomer.

Grooming entails cutting their hair. Bathing is different. That you definitely want to do. I think the suggested time is every 3-4 weeks, but I gave Stormy lots of baths when I first brought her home until she got used to not pooping in her playpen and getting it all over herself  ::)

I don't know why, but Juniper and Daiquiri seem to get stinky much faster than Mai Tai and Mo.  I just bathed them all on Sunday, and Daiquiri and Juni smell already.  Mo and Mai Tai are fine.  What  is that about?

Are they outside much? My Maltese used to go outside and find something dead to roll in every time I would bathe her. Like a worm or a bug or a bird. I never knew we had so many icky things in our yard. I swear that dog would have been so much happier as a hound dog. I'm sure you dogs must all eat the same food so I don't know why one would smell different than the other unless maybe some run more than others or hang out in different places where they could be picking up an odor. Do they actually look like they get dirty sooner or is it just the scent?

Ellie, it is just the scent.  They actually go out a lot less than Mo and Mai Tai.  They just seem to get body odor more quickly.  Maybe because they are older than Mai and Mo, but only by a year or so.  Daiquiri is 5, Juni - 4, Mai Tai -3, and Mo is 2.  Daiquiri and Juni are females though so maybe that is the difference?

It sure has me stumped. My little girl doesn't have any scent to her so I doubt that it is the fact that they are female.

Well, we have bathed them twice now also because they were getting stinky if one of them had an accident.  It is so annoying, if one pees and you don't see it right away, why is it the other one always manages to walk right thru it over and over again so now you have pee pee paw prints all over the tile....LOL

I feel bad, I didn't realize we should be blow drying them after a bath...we usally wrap them in a warm towel and cuddle them for about 5 mintues, then unwrap them and fluff their fur and by then they are so happy to be free they take off and air dry.  LOL

We found out about not letting them around other dogs this weekend.  We didn't think about it and we took them to our local Petsmart while we were looking for some goodies.  I put them down to walk for a minute and one of the sales girls asked how old, as soon as we told her she was like  :o NO..pick them, put them in a cart....don't bring them back until their second shot of vaccines...OOPS!!  Thank God she knew what she was talking about.

Are you using pee pads? They are are a big house training help and they keep the pee all in one spot when they go. If they are going to have an accident it is better the pee pads be around. The pads have a scent that attracts them to the pad when they have to pee. I used them with Gracie when she was little and then gradually moved them closer to the door as she got older. I had two framed ones for her. The frames are really necessary or they will pick the pad up and play with it. Never a dull moment. Most people will put them in their play pens but if you are letting them lose somewhere it is a good idea to have them nearby. Less wet feet! Gracie used them to poo on, too.
I guess you don't have to blow them dry after a bath if they are not cold. I find the fur looks nicer and Gracie has the fine silky type of Yorkie hair so she gets cold easily. No undercoat.
The lady at the store was right. You don't know what dogs are up on their shots and which ones are not. If your yard is not enclosed and you have dogs that travel thru I'd be careful there, too.

The same here,. We took her to petsmart and everybody was touching saying how adorable she was. Even a worker and she never said anything that she to young to be out. Then we took her to the park for a walk never even thinking about her being to young until I heard one of you say it. I felt so bad. But she has had all of her shots now.

:D Thanks guys, I will try to get my husband next time to record us doing the grooming. It is pretty easy, Kiki is very patient with me. The more i do it the better it gets, just practice. You are funny ShorkieJem, I would love to have Jemma here! She is adorable!!! They all looks soo freaking cute! Anyways, as far as"stinky little furballs" Kiki gets stinky quite fast! ::) I think it is because of her size, she is soooo low to the ground, she picks all the smells from grass and God knows what else! So I HAVE to bath her weekly, otherwise she would be soo stinky, yaikes. I figured once a week bath with blow drying her and keeping her coat short does it for her. But as soon as her coat grows about 1.5", I wash out soo much grass and dirt out of her its not even funny. My other dog (12 pounds) does very well with baths every 3-4 weeks and haircuts every 1-2 months. Kiki is HIGH MAINTNENCE!!!  ::) BUT I STILL LOVE HER!
