Ava is home.
« on: May 02, 2011, 03:20:31 AM »
We brought Ava home on Friday, it was the first time we saw her in person and she was so gorgeous I just cried.  She is so good too, she has slept all night long ever since we got her home.  We are so pleased with her, she is a good eater also which helps a lot. Hard to take a picture of her cause she doesn't stay still long enough. lol  I'll try to get some and post later.

Yes, she is just gorgeous!  We lost our other dog Bonnie Blue on March 11, I had to put her to sleep because her kidneys were gone, she was only 3 years old so we were both devastated.  Ava has been a God send.  I will never forget Bonnie Blue.  Or our little April who we lost 4 years ago at the age of 7.  I don't think I'll ever get over losing them but Ava will heal my heartache.

I can assure you that she will fill that void I know on a personal level as I had to put my Scraps to sleep as he had cushings. We had Scraps for 16 years it was such a loss but when we got Toby it really change us and made us more positive. We still think of Scraps from time to time especially when we being photos out.  :)

One never replaces the other, but it is an testament to those lost that you want to have more dogs because having them was such a pleasure.

In December of 2009 I had to have my 15 year old Shih Tzu put down. I did not think I wanted another dog after he was gone. He was such a good boy and so well behaved. I was at such a loss I didn't think I could handle training a young pup. Well, that attitude lasted for about 6 months. I missed having a 4 legged love bug around. I was always interested in Yorkies but around here the price of a Yorkie starts at $1000.00 which I think is way too much to pay for a pet. I just wanted a pet, not a show dog. Anyway I started looking into "designer" dogs and found a breeder. It has been an adventure. The addition of the terrier personality made things very interesting. That zing added to the personality of this little furry princess was quite unexpected. She is nothing like my Shih Tzu but I'm glad she is different. It would be too difficult for me to have a puppy that could never compare to my FooFoo.
Has anyone noticed that this forum is not very active? I notice that there are several new members but it seems the older members have disappeared.

I think when people first get their dogs, they are very active and into the whole thing.  I think, as time goes by, it lessens a little and people stop posting as much.

I think it's too bad that people lose interest. When I was looking into Shorkies I went to Youtube to watch videos of the various Shorkie dogs. I noticed that I could find a large amount of puppy videos but they never posted any after the puppy stage. I wanted to see adult Shorkies and there were only a couple there. It seems that when the cute puppy stage is over and the fur starts getting matted and the lack of proper training causes that pup to have behavior problems some people do not appreciate that little four legged ball of fur anymore. It's such a shame because those poor little dogs are the ones that become annoying, yappy small dogs that give other little dogs a bad reputation. It's not their fault. It is the fault of the irresponsible human that decided to purchase that darling little furry puppy without considering that a dog is a long term commitment. It's just such a shame.

I agree Ellie, I have personally seen so many people who love their puppy but then when they get older they get rid of them because of so many stupid reasons which could have been prevented if the owner was a responsible pet  owner and not just interested in having a cute puppy.  Taking care of a dog, any dog regardless of size is a constant commitment.

I too wish I could see more pictures of adult Shorkies because this is the first I had ever heard of them.  They seem like such fun little pups and I can't wait to see how mine will grow and mature!!

I also wanted to see pictures of grown Shorkies, only could find the puppys.  Guess I'll have to wait until Ava grows up to see one.   Oh, well  I'm glad to wait. She had her first vet visit today and got a clean bill of health and a shot, goes back in a week for another one.  The back after a month.  Then six months for spaying.  everyone loved her there and all wanted to hold her. *S*

There is a piture of Toby who is an adult dog and I think he is as cute as ever.LOL :D

As far as people not staying unfortunately that seems to be the trend with website you get the loyal ones and then you get others that come and go. I set this website up as just a place for people to do just that it's some where that we can come to find out things, share stories etc. :)

My problem is I'm find it is taking me so much time now trying to stop spamers from joining and causing trouble it's so annoying.  :'(

Minnie Mee is an adult now, and here she is after her successful grooming, Ava.  She was 3 pounds when I got her and now weighs a whopping 7.5 pounds...  I have been told she looks more like a cartoon character or Yoda than a dog.
