Hi, I'm new here!!
« on: April 26, 2011, 04:59:51 AM »
Hello Everyone,

I am adopting a female Shorkie in a few weeks.  Right now she is only 4 weeks old and so cute!  This is our first small dog ever and we are a bit nervous.  Love reading all your advice and comments!!  Look forward to chatting with you guys about our Shorkies!!  Also, anyone have any name ideas???  Trying to agree on a name between 4 people is interesting.  Here is a picture of her at 3 1/2 weeks.

You are going to love having her.  Names are so hard to agree on .  It took my family of 7 forever to come up with names for our dogs.  I will try to think of some.

How about Locket, Jasmine, Sasha, Shayla, or something that goes along with how she looks or acts when you get her.  I usually like to name a pet after having them and seeing what their personality is like.  I did not do so with Mai Tai and Mojito though, as most of the family is named after different mixed drinks, so I followed suit.  (Mom- Daiquiri, Dad- Cosmo, Brother- Bailey etc.)

OMG! Cuteness overload! Soooo adorable.

I like Snickers out of the names you gave. I also like Jasmine. My suggestions: Riley, Callie, Bella (overused, but cute)

I love Callie, it is my daughter's name!  We spell it Cali, though.

Great suggestions guys!  Mai Tai, it is funny, my mom names all her pets after alcohol too....she has a Bailey, Brandy, and Kahlua.  LOL

I liked the name Roxy and thought my kids would love it, but they just gave me this look like I had horns growing out of my head when I mentioned that one...UGH!!  These kids are driving me crazy.  This poor puppy will never have a name....LOL

Mai Tai, I was going to spell it Cali too! Ha ha. That's a name I considered for Stormy. I was spelling it Cali bc it was meant to be short for California which is where I'm from :) Roxy is cute! Similar to Rory (Gilmore Girls) which is a cute name also.

With selecting a name for Toby. I had 2 name Scruffy and Toby. I couldn't decide which so I put him down on the floor and called him by both names and  decided that which one he comes to me I will call him that so of course he came when I called him Toby. With doing this I beleive he chose his name.LOL ;D

Oh by the way Toby was 12 Weeks old when I decided to do this.

My sister's cockapoo is Roxy (short for Roxanne).  I love the name Kahlua, and might have to steal it if I ever add to the family.  That is, if hoarding show doesn't get me arrested first.

Too funny Mai Tai.....here's a funny story for you about the hoarding thing.  Before we decded to  get our new puppies, (I am gettig on and my mom is getting one), we actually looked up online how many animals you were allowed to have in your home...LMAO!!  With the new puppies we will have 4 dogs, 6 cats, and fish!!  Heehee.....we love them all though and it does get crazy and crowded at times, but our animals make life so much more enjoyable!  :-)

Hi
I am new here as well. Your puppy looks a lot like my little girl did at that age. Although I had a Shih Tzu for 15 years I was totally unprepared for the difference there is between my Shih Tzu and my Shorkie. My Shorkie is less than half the size of my Shih Tzu and the personality is so different.
I hope you will post more pictures of your baby as she grows. Just remember that these little ones need a little extra attention and protection than a bigger dog. They don't realize their size and are usually quite courageous even when they should be hiding. My baby got in a wrestling match with a kitten when she was 8 weeks old. She ended up falling off my bed and injuring her leg. It terrified me. She went to the vet and thankfully had not broken bones but she limped for a good week after that. She was so tiny and I felt so bad for her. Hope all goes well with your new baby.
Ellie
