Hello all!
I am in San Antonio, and just adopted a new baby shorkie girl, who I will be picking up tomorrow for the first time.  I am so excited, and I was happy to join this forum.  I really would like to see puppy/adult Shorkie photos up here!

I'll try to post "Tessa's" photos up soon!   :D

hello!  I just joined as well.  Though I do not have the puppy yet, I will be picking her up in two weeks and can't wait. I've already been to see her and she is too cute for words, all shorkies are  ;).

The owner of the parents is not a breeder and has never dealt with puppies before (It was an accidental pregnancy >.< ), but I was wondering, when you are weening a puppy from it's mother, is there anything that the owner should be doing?  Or does the process just occur naturally?  When I went to see the puppies last week they were just about 2 months old and on solid foods (softened with a little bit of water), but they still seemed to want milk from the mother, is this normal?

Also, I currently reside in Chicago, does anyone know of any good (and preferably reasonably priced) vets in the area?  The pup hasn't had any of its shots yet and I need to get that done asap.

Thank you!!   :D

Hi yes the pups will still suckle mum if she lets them but eventually she won't. When you get your puppy you will find that it will cry a little at night. What I found is the best thing to do is put a ticking clock in a jumper or in its beding. This seems to make the puppy think its mum's heart beating.

Unfortunately I live in Australia so no I don't know any good vets but yes I agree you do need to get the vet to check it out.

Hi, I am in the same situation as you.  My friend had an accidental mating between her Yorkie female and Shih Tzu male and now I get to pick up my puppy in October when he is 12 weeks old.  I can't wait.  I read that you should sleep with a certain t shirt or towel for a few days so it has your scent on it and then let it be put in with your puppy while it is still at the breeder.  Then the pup will get used to your scent.  Also, bring the t shirt or towel back  home with you when you bring your pup home so it has the scent of the mom and litter mates on it.  This is supposed to help with the transition to a new home.  I am sending such a towel to my friend to put in with my pup.  I hope it helps.  Good luck with your new pet.
