Hello! I am new to this forum. We just got our first Shorkie puppy this Friday, and I was looking for a nice forum to join with other owners of this breed. He's 9 weeks old, 2 lbs and his name is Henry.

Hi, I am new to this as well.  We got out Tiko on the 18th of Feb, all 1.8 lbs.  As of today, he is 1.11 and turned 10 weeks old.  My concern is that he is too small, mother is 6 pounds and father 5.

anise, welcome to the forum.  Congrats on Tiko.   I love the name.  I hear you about the too small issue.  Mojito was 1.8 lbs at 13 weeks, and grew very very slowly.  He was so tiny, that I worried he might not survive, especially as he was not in the best of health when I got him.  The smaller dogs have to eat more frequently so just be on the look out for low blood sugar.  You can buy Nutrical to give the dog if his sugar drops.  You can tell if the sugar drops when they get lethargic, and shaky after not eating for a while. My vet had me feeding Mo 4 to 5 times a day, which was tiring as I had to coax him to eat. Also, don't let him on any furniture he could jump off of, because their legs are very fragile.  Good luck and keep posting.  Mo is a very happy healthy little 3 lb 12 oz dog at one and a half years old, so I am sure Tiko's future is bright too.  Maybe he will make 5 lbs, as he is bigger than Mo was at that age.  At ten weeks, Mo was about 1 lb, 4 oz.  Keep posting.  We look forward to hearing more about Tiko.

Thank you so much for getting back to me.  Tiko is such a joy, smart but stubborn.  He has developed a little cough that sounds like he has something tickling the back of his throat.  It is more at night time, possibily allergies.  He is going for a vet check on the 7th.
This morning I had to cut the zipper completely off a sleeping bag we have on the floor for him to play on.  I found a little piece of zipper that he had chewed off?  I have had dogs before, but this one sure gives you a run for your money.
Tiko has taken to grooming and loves to get his face and netherparts washed in the morning.  I have a little comb that I brush his mustache with, telling him that he is such a good boy, he lies on his back between my legs kneading his little paws in the air.  Nail trimming during sleep also seems to work.  Should I be trimming the hairs off his little feet?

Mona, he sounds adorable.  Please be careful of the coughing.  If it gets worse, go to the vet before the 7th.  Respiratory infections in such small young dogs are serious.  The zipper thing must be a shorkie thing.  Both my shorkies go for the zippers, as well as all the shorkies my friend owns.  Let us know how Tiko is doing.

Thank you so much for your advise.  As we speak, he has a vet appointment for tomorrow at 3.  It does sound like kennel cough, don't know where he would have gotten it, his siblings?  Will keep you posted.  I phoned home and talked to hubby, he is still coughing a little, but is still eating and drinking.

Hehe is few Kiki's pics at 8 weeks. She was 1.8 pounds when I got her. She weighs 4.2 pounds now.
