Weaning puppies
« on: November 03, 2008, 11:27:05 AM »
Does anyone have experience with new puppies? Mine are almost 3 weeks old, and I have read alot about weaning. Trouble is, there are different opinions. I have read to start introducing food anywhere from 3 1/2 to 5 weeks of age. I have also read about mixing evaporated milk and rice cereal, then progressing to puppy food and also starting with puppy food very thin in consistency. They were born a week early, but seem to be right on track with everything. My thought is to try them and if don't seem ready, not to push them of course, just try again the next day. They do not have teeth yet, I figured maybe to wait until they start coming through to start. I also want to do it gradually over a few weeks so as to decrease mommy's milk supply gradually. So any advice would be appreciated as to when and what to feed. I know what the books say, just would like some personal experiences.  Thanks,   Cheri
