It is hard to explain if you don't breed so I will try and explain it a little in laymans term. You don't want to over use a stud, sperm stays alive 48 hours so you breed every other day. But the dog will not breed on his own which means you will have to do artifical inseminatiion. Now that is a whole different process. You will now be doing smears on the female to see when she is ready. You need the right equipment, xtra long q tips to insert into the female to get a smear. Take the q tip and rotate onto a microscope slide, stain it blue, special stuff, get microscope and know how to read the cell formation. Now it can be a real pain therefore some breeders do not wish to do breedings that way and it is perfectly fine not to. Natural is much easier plus many people do not know how to read smears or how to artifically inseminate. Hope this helps you to understand better
