First Grooming
« on: October 20, 2008, 11:04:30 AM »
So my Jolie, is in need of a hair cut.

She is 4.5 months old and weights about 5 pounds. Is it too early for her first cut???

As well I was wondering with Shorkies who have a more of a shitzu hair, once you cut the baby hairs does it grow back the same?

She has very cute patches of black and under them are her normal colour of a reddie brown. Does the black grow back even though the hair is 2 coloured?

I am a little nervous because she is my first puppy and it will be her first cut.

Hi great to have you on this site. WELCOME!!!

Yes I think it is too early yet to get a hair cut. I would put it of till 6 months at least.

I'm sorry to tell you that your puppies colouring will change. When I first got Toby he was almost all black with a touch of red and white. Well you can see by the pictures at the top of the screen that he has changed. His face has lightened up and his legs. He has gone quiet gray in parts. His fur is still as soft as ever. I think he is still very cute just like your puppy will be I'm sure.

I hope that helps. :)

Mai Tai went for his first grooming yesterday and did very well.  The groomer thought he was very sweet.  He was not fond of the dryer though and cried when they pulled out the hair in his ears.  I felt very bad for him.  He was very good though and patiently stood on the table without fussing while he was trimmed, etc.  I think the groomer took off a little too much hair from his face, but I can see his cute eyes now.  One weird thing though.  He kept barking and growling at a picture of a white poodle on the wall.  There were pics of other dogs too, but when we held him up to them, he did not bark.  He just kept barking at that white poodle.  Also, he barked at a white poodle at the vet last week.  Weird.  OUr puppy socialization classes don't start until Dec.  I want to get going on them because I notice Mai Tai barks at other dogs.  It is one of the only times he does bark.  I don't want him to be aggressive to other dogs. I hope the classes help.
