Ambrosia has had 3 new shorkies

Proud grandma of 3 new shorkies. Is there anything i need to do about worming or shots before 6 weeks old and, the dewclaw?

Welcome to shorkie Talk. I don't beleive you do have to do anything before six weeks as long as your adult dogs are vacinated. Please make sure that your puppies don't go near any other dogs until they are. Also don't let others handel them. They shoul be handeled as little as possible until after they have been vacinated. Good Luck. I bet they are very cute. I can't wait to see them also.

I tried to post earlier and I am not sure if it went through or not. Anyway, my name is Cheri and I have a female shorkie, Bailey. She had 4 puppies on 10/14. We had their dewclaws removed when they were 2 days old, and the vet said bring them back at 6 weeks for shots and deworming. I will try to post pics of mama and puppies. I also want to say hello to everyone, I look forward to reading posts.

The dewclaw is the nail that is kind of like a thumb. My dog does not have any. My vet said that it is optional to do it or not, but sometimes they get caught on things or caught in the hair of long haired dogs and can bleed if they get pulled. So, we decided to have them removed. My vet said they must be done before 4 days of age, or she would not remove them. Still working on pics. Mine of Bailey are too large to post, and the ones with her and the pups to big also. I might have to post each one individually.

All are adorable.  So funny your shorkie is named Bailey.  One of the older sibs to my shorkie is also named Bailey.  A friend of mine in Staten Island gave him to me.  Good luck with the puppies, please post new pics as they grow.

Hi, I just read your post and saw you got your pup from S.I. thats where I'm from and everyhhere I go with my shorkie (even the vet) they never saw one and everyone always stops and asks me what my Romeo is they just think hes so cute and the coloring he has is awsome.

That is funny.  My friend has a few shorkies and 4 yorkies, a Lhasa, and a Shih-Tzu.  She is not a breeder, just an animal lover.  She gave me a pup when her Shih Tzu got to one of her Yorkies on accident.  Are you still in Staten Island?  I was born there, as were my parents.  I am in NJ now, but miss Staten Island.

I'm still here, I'm, a native, parents, grandparents etc. all from here wish I could move but the job keeps us here , I actually got my shorkie after a lot of reseach on dogs (I have bad allergies) from a fried who knew someone in Pa, He will be 1 years old tomorrow Nov 1
