Another neutering story!
« on: August 13, 2010, 09:17:26 AM »
I had Raley neutered on July 28.  I also had a 4 year old  rat terrier spayed.  Anyhow, I had heard and read from SO many people that the cone was going to be a "must".  I was told before hand that I would need to feed them only the chicken/rice, etc....Well let me tell you--my two had ZERO problems.  The vet did not even see the need for a cone on either of them. He said that neither of them had shown any signs of trying to lick, chew, etc....their incision.  The female didn't feel well for about 24 hours.  Raley acted like he really hadn't even noticed that he had surgery!  I could not be more pleased with the experience that they went through.  I would do it over again in a heartbeat.  I highly recommend spaying/neutering and will not tell people that their pet will act a particular way and that they need to drug up their pet(s) due to the pain.  In my opinion, if the dogs are visibly not feeling well then something for pain is definitely something I'd do but seriously, especially Raley, mine didn't need any prescribed pain meds.  I gave the female motrin the first night she was home but after that she was perfectly fine! The vet gave them both a pain shot prior to discharging them and did tell us to let him know if they showed signs of pain later on.  Lucky for them they did not.   Raley wanted to lick the females incision a few times and I sprayed Bitter Blast on her...he stopped!

I hope that everyone who spays/neuters their pet(s) can have a positive experience like we did!!

Hi Mag,
Yep, Toby was spayed and he was great. We had no trouble with him chew at his stitches. I would just tell him no and he would stop. He was so good. :)

We just had Weston neutered this week.  If you didn't know it you would not be able to tell.  He's his normal self, no pain killers, no cone, I am very happy that he's in such good shape.  He's almost six months and now 7.8 pounds.

Yay!  So many positive stories!  I hope all of the little ones that have had surgery are doing well.  Raley is great!  His little "sack" is almost completely gone now.
