« on: June 29, 2010, 05:14:31 PM »
I just wanted to show everyone Alice. We are new to this form. Im Paula. We live in houston TX. Alice is my first shorkie. We picked her up Sat. She is 10 weeks old. I had to wait extra long to get her :( becaues she was the smallest in her litter. She was well worth the wait tho.  :) :)

Ann is so right.  The weights vary a lot.  At ten weeks, Mai Tai was about 4 lbs, 2 oz, and at ten weeks, Mo was about one pound 6 oz.  These two dogs are related too, so as you can see, it is hard to determine.  You just kind of have to wait and see. You can get your best estimate, I think, by knowing the size of the parents.

Minnie Mee was three pounds two ounces at 12 weeks.  She is now 6 pounds 6 oz at 8 months.  Mom was 9 pounds and dad was 4 pounds...  seems to work dividing the two numbers by two!

Alice's dad was 3.5 lbs. I dont know big her mother is. I did see here she look under 9lbs. Is Alice going to be on the small side? I would also like to know how are Shorkies personalitys? I will not stand for a nippy dog. So far she is very very sweet and has never met a stranger.LOL ;D

All puppies can be nippy, you just have to correct it.  Mo was only a little nippy, while Mai Tai was quite nippy.  I find the shorkie, in general, from what I read on this site and hear from friends, to be very sweet natured and very loyal to the owner.  Mine love people, but do bark at other dogs, quite a lot.  It is rather annoying, and we have been to obedience classes, etc.  Alice will probably be very sweet.  I would guess she will be five pounds or over, as Mo was smaller than her at 12 weeks, and is four pounds now.  That is really just a guess though.  I like them a little bigger, as it is easier to care for them, and you don't have to worry as much about low blood sugar, stepping on them, falling off of furniture, etc.  Keep us posted on Alice's doings.  Take Care.

I agree that you have to train the dog.  Minnie Mee doesn't bark, or nip.  Yesterday she had to be with two cats... she growled a little.  But everyone said it sounded more like a purr.  If you are firm, you will get what you want.
