Welcome to the site Mindy and Pete.  The puppy is adorable.  I live in NJ in the USA and I am lucky enough to have two shorkies.  Mai Tai will be two next month, and his nephew, Mojito is a year old.  This site is great and a big help a lot of the time.  I love it and check it everyday.  I wish you the best of luck with your puppy and look forward to hearing how she is doing.

Thanks everybody for the welcome   The first thing I noticed (apart from the obvious cuteness) was how intelligent she seems to be. She was potty trained at around 14 weeks, and has already learned how to open her crate from the outside to get to her teddy bear inside!  Are Shorkies known as an intelligent breed?

I know they are a cute breed, but don't know if they are any more or less intelligent than any other mixed breed dogs.  I have to say that Mai Tai seems to be of average intelligence, but Mo, God Bless him, is as dumb as a box of rocks.  It only makes him cuter.  LOL.

Well yorkies are rated 24 out of 100 on the intelligence scale, but shih tzus are rated 90.  According to my vet, if your dog looks more yorkie than shih tzu, then it's probably more on the yorkie intelligence side.  I know the trainer I went to with 20 other dogs said little minnie mee was one of the smartest dogs she had ever seen.  She watches the trainer show the trick and can do it as so as I ask her to.

That is funny, because Mo is more on the Yorkie side and Mai Tai is more on the Shih Tzu side.  Mai Tai learned all kinds of commands, and he picked up agility training pretty quickly, even the weave poles.  Mo on the other hand knows how to sit...sometimes.
