Containment
« on: June 13, 2010, 09:35:07 AM »
Hello everyone,

I would like to know what everyone uses for containment for there shorkie?  Max is starting to run everywhere when we take him out to potty.  This may be a bad subject but does anyone use a wireless fence system?

I walk my dogs to go to the bathroom.  I have a large fenced in yard, but they won't pee or poop in it usually.  The yard is great for Mai Tai but I cannot leave Mo in it at all without constant supervision.  He is small enough to climb under the fence in spots, and I also have to worry that Hawks can take him.

I am lucky, in that I live in a two story apartment with very steep stairs, and I have a balcony.  In the morning, I take mm down to the balcony and give her breakfast.  She eats and poops on the balcony where she has a special spot while I enjoy a leisurely breakfast.  After her second poop, I bring her back upstairs.  She can't get down those stairs.  I do have a wire enclosure, but only use it if someone is coming to take care of her while I am away too long.  I take her for a walk at noon and one when I get home at 6pm.  If she can't wait, there is a plastic covered area in my upstairs which also has newspapers on it, and she being the good little housebroken girl she is, does it there.  At eight months old, that seems to work for both of us.

I'm lucky enough i dont have to use any type of containment, i have self thought meika how to stay in the garden without having a fence or being tied on.  She can be outside for hrs and not budge from the garden.. By setting rules, boundaries and limitations, you can teach your dog to know your the pack leader..ive learn this from Caesar and trust me it works.  When walking now, meika doesnt be on a leash, she walks next to me never behind nor ahead always onside of me.  I'm proud to say i'm thought her well :)

Wow!! Travis & Meika, Bravoe!! you are such a good trainer to your dog to be able to have your dog be so obedient.
Toby is trained and if I didn't have a fence he would not go anywhere unless someone walked passed. Toby loves people sooo much that It doesn't matter what treats I offered him he would rather a pat from a human than the treat.LOL
