Kiki got her first haircut
« on: May 08, 2010, 08:22:05 AM »
...hehehehe.... quite a workout for me it was!!! She was so scared and was hiding her little face in my arms. It took about an hour, & she still looks like a teddy bear. Sweet as always. She does not look like my little pork chop anymore, since the hair is gone. I gave her a puppy cut. Now I can see how much she grew. She is longer but not so much taller and still weighs 2.2 pounds. I will try post a pic for her. However, next time, we are going to groomer.  :D

You are brave to groom yourself!  I cut Zoe's bangs and beard, but otherwise have the groomer keep the rest of the coat in shape.  She also has a personal vendetta against brushes, so it's a chore just to keep her brushed!
Hi Ho Zoe Bear! :)

I groom Montana's hair in between professional cuts every 2-3 months.  I like to keep the hair around her eyes and nose short, as well as her rear and paws.  Here is a pic of her last grooming along with her Mom.. so cute!

Lisa,

Wanted to give you a tip on the brushing.  My Kuma didn't like the brush or the comb either and the furminator for the cats is not right for his coat.  I finally went up and got the pick that I use for my hair, he loves it and it works great.  Gets the tangles out and I use to do finger brushing when he was younger and he enjoyed that.  Of course, I did go buy myself a new one.

In between cuts I use the "petzoom" brush, this is great for getting out little knots and just keeping Ozzy neat in between haircuts. It has a attachment that actually takes the hair off or just use the brust and you press the back and hair can be wiped off. It's also good for sanitary purpose, if any poop gets caught on hair just brush etc. I paid about 10.00 and this is one of my favorite items I recommend to my friends/family.

I'm impressed.  What kind of clippers did you use?  What are the best scissors to use as well?  Where I live a grooming session costs $45.  It would be very nice to save some money.  My shorkie nips me when she doesn't like what I'm doing to her.  How do you keep your dog calm when you're clipping her?

We have groomed Kuma's sanitary area (hinny) and around his feet and and little around the bangs.  My hubby holds him and we praise him and give him lots of treats.  We put him on the top of the cat scratcher in kitchen, which helps keep him up at more our level. When he needs the whole package (I am going to miss those black tips), we will probably take him to the groomer for a puppy cut.  I do know that I don't want them to shave him super close.

When Stinkum was 8 months, I took him to the groomer and it initially cost me $35.  But each time I went, it was progressively more and more expensive: $45, then $55, then $65 from the same groomer!  The groomer said it's because Stinkum is difficult and noticed she wrote that in bold red letters with several underlines on Stinkum's card.  Makes we wonder if they dread groominng Stinkum at all.  Don't get me wrong, he always looks so cute when he's done, but he also was very traumatized by the whole experience and always hated going to the groomer.  So I finally decided to read up on grooming and groom Stinkum myself.  I'm not sure why my groomer said he was so difficult.  Maybe all Stinkum wanted was some love.  Now whenever I take out his towel, he wags his tail as if we are playing a game.  He'll let me wash him, blow dry and brush him, and even use an electric clipper on him.  The only thing he will not let me do is cut his nails.  I have to have my boyfriend hold him while I trim the nails; otherwise, I'm scared that I will cut the quick, as he fidgets a lot.  Oh, and if you want a fluffy coat, the trick is to brush his body against the grain while you are blow drying his hair.  It seems weird at first, but that's how poodles are groomed.  Only his ears and tail should be brushed with the grain.

I dp a lot of grooming for mm, but missed two days and she played a lot with her boyfriend hobbes the havanese.  Next thing i know, she has two large mats behind her ears.  I cut them off but I dread finding more, and I don't want to take her to a groomer who will just shave off all her beautiful hair!
