puppys first hair cut!!
« on: April 02, 2010, 05:42:21 AM »
I am debating on taking westyn to the grommer to get him shaved, just wondering how old all your shorkies were before they got their 1st haircut!!!and I'm having mixed feeling about it as I haven't had the best of luck with groomers so I'm terrified to take him!all opinions would be greatly appreciated and thank you!!!

Mine both had their first grooming at about 16 weeks after all of their shots were done.  They both did really well.  I thought we would have to sedate Mo, but he was fine.  Good luck.

I really think it depends on the groomer.  My friend's boston terrier runs like mad in the other direction every time they even approach the groomer and even when they're not going there.  What I liked about my groomer (I went when Minnie Mee was 5 months old) is that she asked me what I wanted, and as a result, I got a dog with clipped nails, a clean face and butt, no more matting, but all her hair intact, which since I brush her every day, was fine.  Another friend went to another groomer with her morkie, and couldn't even recognize the poor thing.  She cried!  Remember, it's just like you getting a hair cut.  If you don't ask for what you want, you never know what you will get.

My groomer is at PetSmart.  I don't think the store is necessarily good, but this particular groomer is very good.  When my dogs see her, they go running to her.  She takes time to play with them whenever we are in the store, and remembered their names from the first time we brought them in.  Mo hates the comb when I try to use it, but lets her do it.  I stay with the store because of her. If she ever leaves, I will have to follow.

Hey West, he looks great.  If you want to save the 5 on nail clipping, maybe your vet will do it for nothing.  Mine let me bring in my dogs and cats for nail clipping whenever they need it and don't charge for it because we are customers.  Give it a try, it can't hurt to ask.  Good luck.

Well unfortunatelly my vet does charge wich I think is ridiculous!but as long as he gets them done because his nails are sharp and it doesn't feel good on my neck

Meika just experience the worse grooming experience ever. I clearly asked the groomer to shave the body...and to shape her face out and shave around her genitals... I also told her to keep her tail long.  So when i goes pick her up, shes not shaven, nor shaped around the faced..gentials isnt shaved.. and in the process she has three of her claws totally ripped off. I'm soo rotted, you wouldnt even imagine how pissed i am... such a sin! :(

Sorry Travis.  I guess there are both good and bad groomers.  West, that is a horrific story about your poor Bella.  So sorry.

My 'lil Stinkum turned 2 in April.  He was a honey color when I got him as a puppy.  When he turned 8 months,  I took him to a groomer for his first puppy cut.  To my dismay, all the color came out and left his fur a cream color, but still cute as hell!  Did anyone else experience this?
