brushing teeth
« on: August 27, 2008, 07:55:54 PM »
Hi,
I'm having a hard time holding my shorkie while brushing his teeth. He squirms around so much that I can't get any brushing done. Does anyone have any tips?

Thanks =)

Oh...i would love some advice on this too.  Chewy is great with everything, but when it comes to brushing his teeth he gets crazy.  I think he gets so excited about eating the toothpaste that he doesn't let me brush.

I have to say I never bothered with brushing Toby's teeth. I just give him a denta bone on a regular basis. Also if you give them raw bones they clean their teeth with them. In the wild dogs don't have tooth brushes so they use bones and sticks to clean their teeth. I like the denta bones as they freshen his breth. Of course if you feed them a proper diet they shouldn't need to brush their teeth too much. Yeh well I give Toby the odd treat and my husband is a terror for giving him sweet biscuits. Any way that is what I do.lol ;D

I've never brushed any of my dog's teeth. The vet has commented many times on Max's teeth and how good they are. Benji's teeth seem really good too... right now...though he's young so we'll have to see I guess. I think some dogs are more prone to bad teethe than others.  I think you are right Ann, I give them Denta bones and bones and as far as I'm concerned if it ain't broke...don't fix it. :)

Thanks. I think I'll be taking Luigi to the pet store soon and pick up some DentaBones. =)
