Newbie...Sort of
« on: March 06, 2010, 11:37:47 PM »
Hi Everyone!

I'm Char and my Shorkie is Rayne.   :)  I've been lurking for a while and figured it's past time to post.  I got Rayne the beginning of December when she was 12 weeks old. She weighed 1.5 lbs. then and now only weighs 3 lbs. She was just spayed on Wednesday and came through with flying colors!  I too thought about a litter from her, but she is just too tiny to risk it. We are seasonal campers and all the "family" at the campground have little boy toy fox terriers, so I thought this was the best option.  I wanted to make sure she is all healed before the season starts.  I do think it's safe to say that she is about finished growing.

She is absolutley amazing!  She can turn big grown tough men into blubbering idiots!  Her big brother is an 85 lb. German Shepherd mix and he is absolutely wonderful and very gentle with her.  He is almost nine years old and does sometimes have to escape her playfulness.

This site is great!  I love being able to come on here and read the latest posts and can relate with many of you.

Welcome to the site.  Rayne sounds tiny like my little Mo who is 3 lbs 15 oz at 10 months.  I don't think Rayne is done growing yet at 6 months though.  They are usually not done until 10 to 12 months or longer.  At 6 months, I think Mo was not 3 lbs yet, now he is almost 4.  So glad to hear Rayne did well with the spay as I am neutering Mo on the 23rd, and was worried how he would do under anesthesia because he is so small.  My vet did not want to neuter him until he was 4 lbs or more.  He says that the dogs will gain weight after neutering.  Your post has made me feel better about his upcoming surgery, so thank you.  Keep posting, as we would love to hear more about Rayne.  Love the name by the way.  We had a beagle named Rainy when I was growing up, and you reminded me of him.  Take care.

Thank you all for the wonderful welcome!

I was very worried about spaying her because she is so tiny.  The vet was very confident so that was a huge help.  She has stitches that come out next week and I actually took the week off from work last week...and I work from home!  I keep her hoodie on her so that she does not lick them. It's very difficult to keep her calm!

Rayne is actually named after the rain!  My b/f liked it and I had a hard time warming up to it, so when someone suggested Rayne, I liked it much better.  It was raining really hard when went to get her and even had a blow out on the way back.

Our beagle, Rainy, came running up to us during a heavy rainstorm.  We could never find her owners so we kept her and named her after the Rain.

Little Miss Rayne had her stitches out a couple of days ago and has done so well.  I'm so glad that I decided to get her done at 6 months.  She did seem to regress a little on the potty training, but is back on track now. I'm sure it was from the trauma of having surgery. Because I got her in the winter time, she has a potty patch.  I just thought it was entirely too cold for such a little thing to go outside.  She has been going outside now that it is warming up,  with some success there as well. I do have to be on top of the potty patch and keep it cleaned up or else she will bring me presents   Uggh!  lol

Her mom is ready for the warmer weather! I bought a new camper  (used)the day she had surgery.  It was part of the plan to keep my mind busy. Good thing she only has to have this done once...I would go broke!

Sooo glad Rayne is ok and that she is back to normal. I know what you mean about the cost of getting them desexed. I beleive if they made it free or at least a lot cheaper there would not be so many strays around. I really wish the government would do something about this in some way. Woops I'm getting on my band wagon again Sorry. LOL ::)

Welcome to Shorkie Talk.  She'll grow more.  My Jemma was tiny till she got spayed.  Then she started to gradually gain weight.  No matter how big or small they are beautiful!!
