quik question about potty training?

Just wondering how long it took everyone to potty train there shorkie,I'm about 95% their with westyn and he's only had 4 accidents in the house in 2 wks but they all seem to be right after he wakes up

Meika was excellent the first two months, with less than 5 accidents, but then she got awful and i had to retrain her..and she's still not completely trained, she tends to have like one-two accidents a week

I agree sometimes they regress.....maybe take him right outside as soon as he gets up....even if he isn't going to the door...

I have started to do that and he's doing really good at it.I guess sometimes they will regress back to their old habits just have to stick with it

oh yea for sure you have to kept at them.  As soon as he gets up, or after he eats/drinks bring him out so he will know the custom.  Meika knows to go to the door but she wont bark so if im not in the porch, then i dontknow she wants to go out which causes alot of my accidents

I have a 10 week old.  I am discouraged, as the vet at her first check yesterday told me that shorkies are VERY difficult to potty train.
She sure is adorable though

Welcome and don't be discouraged darazzle.  My Mai Tai was a breeze to housebreak, and Mo is a pain.  It depends on the particular dog, so maybe yours will be easy.  Just be consistent whatever you do and good luck.

rocco is mostly potty trained, but we still have to make sure we take him out as soon as possible after he wakes up and about 15min after he eats.  in between, it's ever 3 or so hours when he's not in his crate. 

even then, he'll have some accidents, so just expect it.  clean up the mess with an enzyme cleaner so they don't think that's a proper place to go.  i like to pick a spot outside, tell him to "go potty" and when he's done give him a treat.  works well enough now that he pretty much goes on command.  but i guess it's when he goes without the command that is the problem.   

remember too that sometimes these puppies will have accidents when they get overly excited and when they are being submissive.  rocco came up to me once and a little pee was on the floor.  i couldn't figure out why he did that. i thought he was mad at me and that was his way of showing it.  after some research, i realized that was his way of saying that i recognize you as the alpha.  wish there were better ways of him letting me know.   

but, i expect about a year before he will grow out of his little accidents.  if he does it sooner, then that's a bonus!  btw, we live in a condo, so i'm sure that's more confusing than just being able to go outside.

Well, I tought I was doing great with Kiki and her training, but then it got really bad. She would pee and poop in the house, not even hiding away. This is when my hubby took over. He had her trained in ironically 3 days without any accidents in between. Kiki is 3.5 months and 2.2 pounds. I always feel that she is a baby, where he said if they can remember where their food and water is, where they toys are, that tells you they can remember where they have to go to do business. If she does it in the house, it shows you pure disrespect. Kiki can hold it all noght without accidents or waking up in her crate. He belives they are capable of holding 3 hours then throughout day also. So when she had her thing on first day of the training, he brought her nose close to it, and made her smell it with firm loud NO command. Then he had her on a leash sitting right next to it while telling her she was bad, and she can`t do it in his house. After 30 mon, he cleaned up mess and took her out immediatelly. In a meanwhile, Kiki looked scared to me. He said she was uncomfortable because of critisizing her loud. I did not like my husband for this, as Kiki kept looking a me whining. He would not let me talk to her or pick her up. So I let him take over. In next 3 days, she had no accidents and continiues like that. She will go to the door if she needs to go earlier, sit by door and look at us. We have to keep close eye on it. Otherwise, we take her out scheduled approx. every 3 hours, and before bed time and after meals, and she does her business. I tought it was harsh training, but it worked. He argued with my feelings to dog, and spoiling her rotten. he was right as now I see his point.

yes, you don't want to spoil them , because then they think they are the alpha and can do whatever they want.

Boy, reading these posts, I feel lucky!  I thought Minnie wasn't doing well with one accident a month!  But I do have a setup where she can go in the house:  A large plastic tablecloth, with her food at one end and paper on the other... if she has to go when I am not at home, she goes right on the paper.  So far so goood....

I may have to try your husband's method, Kuma is pooping in the house about 1 to 2 times a week, and I can't ever seem to catch him at it.  He did it this morning, about 45 minutes after he had gone outside this morning and done his business.  He is doing it while no one is watching and then he walks thru it, yuck.  I guess when I am getting ready he is going to have to go back in the kennel and can't be out alone downstairs by himself.  I have to admit it is getting a little irrating, because he is a smart dog.

He apperantly saves some for inside. Can you approximate time when he goes after he comes back? Take him out again at around that time. We have been lucky so far no accidents yet...
