Weird thing - not sure what to put this under
« on: March 03, 2010, 07:18:16 PM »
My Kuma is doing a weird thing, which I think is a dominate issue.  OK, he is male, but when you put your foot down, he scoots his butt over like he is going to pee on you.  Now, this is the first small breed that I have had and he only 12 weeks old and doesn't even lift his leg to go outside.  I have had several male larger dogs and currently also have a female border collie something mix from the animal shelter (lab mix and another that I can't spell without looking it up!), and I have never encountered this issue.  I am telling him no, and pushing him away, sometimes with my foot and then he will start barking at me.  Anybody else encountered this????

That is weird. I've never had that problem with Max but it did take him a couple of months to lift his leg to pee. He doesn't do that when he pees indoor though, which I am glad of..haha Don't think my bf would be happy with pee stains on the walls. When he does that try saying "no" and moving out of the way. Don't pick him up or anything because that will give them the idea that it is okay to keep doing it.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks his is doing better, we just give him a gentle nudge away with the foot and say a stern NO.

He is doing much better at potty training too, except for the pee pads that I have to leave for him in the laundary room when we are both gone at work.  For some reason, he likes chewing on them and moving them around before he goes on one.  He usually gets them turned over to the wrong side and then they don't work really well.  I am going to have to figure something that will work to keep him from doing that.  Last night when I came home from work I had to mop the whole floor and give him a bath.

He is not quite up to being crated for that long and I don't think his little bladder could hold it for that long when we both have to be gone all day.  Taping it won't work, because I know he would eat the tape.  Last week he managed to chew off a sticker on the crate that I didn't even know was on there.

Will be glad when he gets bigger and can be crated for longer during the day.  I am also glad that my hubby has a flexible work schedule and he usually does not have to be crated for 8 hours every day.
