On the tear stains, I have a friend who says that her friend who breeds malti's uses only distilled water for feeding and it seems to help.  Kuma is darker colored (right now) and I use the puppy eye wipes about once or twice a week.

Hi, I have heard that also, and more often now give Ozzy bottled water it seems to help the stains. Also someone else here mentioned giving 1 tbsp of apple cider vinagar to them which I did in his water.

All Shorkies that I know of all change colors to the lighter.  Head, body.  It may look dark near the roots, but it lightens in time as well.  I don't think your dog will retain much black.  Does anyone have a Shorkie where they retained black?  It would be neat though.  Jemma was dark brown and black and changed to honey with some blond.  All Shorkies are beautiful.

rocco was darker, but we gave him a little hair cut and he had more silver/white underneath at 3 months.  the other night we gave him another cut and he is actually darker now, more black and tan. he's 4.5 months now.  i guess that's just the difference in the undercoat to "hair" coat colors.  rocco is more shih tzu so he has the undercoat.

i read somewhere that eye watering and staining can helped if fed raw carrots.  i dont' think it helps, but rocco loves the carrots. :D
