Hi all!

What kind of fences have you all found to be effective to keep little dogs in, that they don't climb?

I have only had Zoe outside with a halter and leash, but I would like to make her an area that she can play in.  Zoe is really a climber on the sides of her basement kennel.

Also, do your dogs wear collars, or do you just use a halter and leash when walking?
Hi Ho Zoe Bear! :)

Hi Lisa, Both of my dogs wear collars, though Mojito is very small and should be on a halter, but he hates it.  I have a chain link fence on two sides of my house and wood on the other two.  My dogs don't climb the chain link, but Mo is small enough to get under it, so it is not the best.  I never leave them in the yard alone.  I am too afraid Mo would get out or a hawk would pick him up and fly away with him.

Bailey wears a collar with her info on it....but I don't use it to walk her...she has a harness for that....we have a wood fence but there are too many areas where she could slip under the fence and we have huge dogs on one side and behind us so I don't let her out in the yard by herself..I always walk her

I'm assuming you are talking about fences in the back yard. That I would have to say the wood fences where it's high enough so they don't jump over and low enough that they don't try to dig their way out. Also it's good to keep things away from the fence so they can't use it to jump over. Or, you can always get one of those big play pens that they can run around in.

Max has a collar but we don't clip his leash to it. We either use a body harness (it keeps him from getting choked since he likes to always run ahead of me whenever he sees another dog). Or a collar that has 2 loops at the ends of it wear if he does tug on his leash it won't choke him that much.

Ozzy does wear a collar with his name & contact info also license info, however I use a harness for walking because some small dogs I'm told by my vet the collar type hurts their treachea if they pull. I always kept a collar on my first shorkie but a friend told me she never leaves collar on because afraid the dog could get caught on something if not fitted right etc... I always make sure its fitted correctly

I found a neat little body harness at abc distributing.com,it looks like a little sleeveless outfitt made from a open mesh material,so it is not hot in the summer, and it looks so cute .

We have a harness for Kuma, and that only goes on when it is potty time or when taking for a walk.  He gets the other collars caught in his mouth, even the cat ones that are supposed to be break aways.  So we don't leave a collar on him, because he is constantly trying to chew on it or gets it caught in his lower jaw(first harness he did chew through).

As to the fence, we have five acres, as do all our neighbors, so because of the wildlife and neighbors that let their dogs run around unleashed, he is always on a leash outside or in his carrier.  When he gets older, I will probably purchase when of those pens (with a top), as we also want to take him camping when we go and I worry about the hawk or eagle thing myself where we live & camp.
