Best dog toys
« on: December 02, 2009, 03:58:56 PM »
I'm wondering if anyone can help me find a good quality dog toy that won't break the bank. I've given Max a lot of toys like stuffed animals with squeaky things inside them which are the ones he loves and toys that seems to have a tougher material. Also given him the tug rope toys to play with. He seems to easily destroy them within a day or so. Max has really strong teeth and once he puts his mind to something he usually gets it done. I've already been through 30 or so toys within the last 7 months! I've bought toys from Petsmart to those high end boutiques and none has been able to withstand Max's bite. I've even bought him toys that are meant for children and given him big bottles and bottle caps to play with.

So if anyone can suggest a toy that can last for a long period of time, I would really appreciate it. Also, he doesn't care to play with balls. Thanks!

The Kong is virtually indistructable, but Cash doesn't really care for his.  He too LOVES the squeaker toys and makes it is personal mission to get the squeaker out!  His favorites are plush toys and as you said they don't last that long.  Wish I could help, but I'll be curious to see what others have to say.

Yea, we also have a small kong for Max. We put little biscuit inside instead of the fillers so it is a bit hard for him to get out. When he gets frustrated he'll just sit there and stare at you waiting for you to help him out. When you don't he'll just move on to his other toys.  :-\

I have a puppy Kong for Wicket, and I like to put kibble in it, usually his breakfast, and plug the end with some peanut butter or kong stuffn. Sometimes he needs help getting the stuff out though :) Sometimes it keeps him occupied and sometimes it doesn't.

It's really weird, but my doggie likes cat toys the best, especially anything with feathers. They don't last long, but at least they're cheap :P I had some laying around that my cat has ignored for the past year and Wicket just loved them. One feathery toy they both like are Showbirds :)

Hi Bell, be careful with the cat toys as they can be small, and swallowed.  Mai Tai accidentally swallowed one of my cat's toys and we had to watch him carefully for days to make sure it did not block his intestines.  He puked and would not eat for about 3 days, then finally got better, after puking up most of the toy.

My first shorkie loved stuffed toys however he would destroy them in a day or two, he would have to get the squeeker out and then wouldn't stop till all the stuffing was out too(usually when I wasn't home and I would find it all over) however Ozzy (my 2nd) really doesn't destroy and prefers handballs instead which for some reason roll themselves so this keeps him very occupied fetching. Also I actually take any of my kids old stuff toys and take the stuffing out and give that to paly (like to get rid of anyway) just be careful of beaded eyes ect.

Bailey chews a lot on her toys too...she likes the rope toys but I have to watch her with them..it usually takes her a month or so to chew thru the rope and untwist it...then it's time for a new one...she has chewed thru some stuffed toys easily....others last a few months....she has had her kong..since we go her in May...she also still has a few balls and a hard rubber toy that looks like a ball with feet...but most of the stuffed toys she will destroy in a few months

Teddy chews out squeakers immediately. I got some for him in a disney store (not in Disney LAND but in Florida disney store) and he immediately chewed a hole through it in attempt to get squeaker.  :-\ Yeah, no toys last long with Teddy! I don't think that he'd be interested in a kong UNLESS it involved some yummy food of some sort. That's the way it goes for him. Teddy likes chewing on his brush and rope most of the time. We have lots of toys for him, but a lot have been thrown away due to the fact he ruined them (or chewed them to shreds!)  :P
:D I love shorkies, especially T.B. :D

Did you get Teddy the set of 3 disney toys..?? if so we got the same set for Bailey and she chewed thru them in a few days...I think they were very cheap toys..since she usually does not chew thru a toy that quickly

I think that it was, mickey's pants and a glove. I don't know what the other one was, but I am saving one for when he gets older and he might not chew through them.

It's funny reading about the re-purposed cat toys!  Our new puppy Zoe is having a ball going under all of our furniture and finding the toys our two cats have lost under there!  She starts by growling at the couch, with her head stuck under, then after some wiggling around, she emerges with her prize!  Mostly they are little balls, some with bells, so I haven't had to take any of them away.  Too funny!
Hi Ho Zoe Bear! :)

Well I figured since Max loves to play with water bottles I would go out and search for something that can cover the water bottle. I got tired of stepping on little pieces of plastics on the carpet. Also I was scared of him eating those little pieces. Thankfully I found it at Cost Plus World Market. All it is is a cloth that wraps around the water bottle with velcro. They have a santa claus one and a reindeer one. Whoever thought of this is a genius.
