Avamae being held all the time
« on: November 29, 2009, 12:28:00 PM »
Avamae wants to be held all the time. Does anyone else have the same issue? I have even gone to the extreme of buying an infant swaddler to put her in so I can get things done around the house. She has a mini doxie to play with but insist on me holding her.

Mojito is like that too, but I don't put up with it.  I let him bark while he is gated in the kitchen and he eventually gives up.  You may be spoiling Avamae.  I don't think there is a problem with that unless you don't mind holding her all of the time.  This could lead to other issues though as a spoiled dog can become an unhappy, snappish, bossy dog.  You can let her cry or bark in a crate until she learns this will not get her the attention she wants.  Wish you luck.

Teddy sometimes squirms to get out of my arms when I pick him up! So many things to explore for a puppy! You probably shouldn't let her always get what she wants; encourage her to play with the other puppy. I, therefore, do not have the same issue. I agree with Mai tai. They are usually not very patient and will give up if you don't give them what they want all of the time. Good luck.
:D I love shorkies, especially T.B. :D

I've never had this problem w Roxy... she doesn't mind being held but she doesn't ask for it for no reason. She usually looks to be picked up if she is scared or nervous, but I usually don't pay attention to her unless it is something that is really scaring her haha.

Max is the same way. Especially when I come home. He's always begging to be held, but I don't give him the satisfaction..haha. I wait till he's calm and just give him a pat and say "good boy." It's weird that he always wants me to hold him but with my boyfriend he's always squirming out of his lap.

Bailey doesn't look to be held all the time, she just wants to be near one of us...usually next to us on the couch or curled up on the floor near us...the only time she wants to be held is when I'm vacuming she seems to hate it and wants some one to hold her when it come out....i've tried leaving it out so she can smell it etc but so far no luck she's still scared of it.......I agree with the other try to let her bark/whine with out picking her up....althought i know that will be hard for you

My Nova loves being held-to the point she will walk on her back legs, following me, trying get me to pick her up!
She also doesn't like loud things such as the vaccuum, blender and mixer, but when those are going she doesn't want to held, she holds her ground and growls and barks at them! (it's kind of funny!)

Gracie loves to be held but she doesn't demand it. She always follows me around and if I sit down she jumps up on my lap. She does have a very fine coat and I noticed that if she can't sit in my lap she will wrap herself around one of the cats or lay right on top of the cat. She is really a heat seeker. When it got really hot and I turned the AC on she would get cold and sleep under her blanket. I have granite floors in the kitchen that get very cold so I have a cat bed that she sits in while I am working out there.
She needed to be held much more as a puppy and it may be she was insecure. At any rate I don't think you can spoil a dog. If you train a dog properly and give it proper exercise and love you will have a good dog. If the dog's needs are not met you will have a problem. Chewing, barking, destroying things are usually done by dogs that are bored and have not had enough exercise.

Angel wants to be held some but she likes to lay on a blanket by my feet where ever I'm at. She loves being held when I blow on her stomach or blow air on her stomach she loves that. Or at times when she's feeling very cuddeley.

Nova is a heat seeker too- If one of us isn't cuddling with her, she is cuddled with the cats or her blankie. Sometimes, we think that she thinks she is a cat. (They will jump up to surfaces and she will attempt to do that too!)

Here is Gracie with some of her friends. We don't have the kittens anymore but she thought it was her job to keep them in line. She was just a pup then. She thought she was Boss Kitten. Now she just loves to nap with kitties.

Oh That is adorable! She thinks of cats as being just like herself. She really got lighter in color since she was a puppy didn't she? She was a adorable puppy also. Angel got lighter when we cut her puppy hair off but she won't get that light I don't think. But she was also darker as a puppy.

So cute! Charlie likes cats too, must be because they are about the same size. Gracie is adorable, both now and as a puppy! She sure got lighter though, wow!  :)
