Hi Dawn,
I'm sorry you are disappointed not to find more people on this site but if you could bring more people that would be great. I would love to have them join us and share comments and advice. This site is brand new so the more interaction the better.

Hi ;D, I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is April. I am the proud owner of a rescued Shorkie named Benji. I love this forum and hope to make some new friends and find some helpful information when needed.

Hi April,

I am on here at least once a day.  I guess I am too excited about picking up my shorkie, Mai Tai, in October and trying to gather as much info as possible before I bring him home.  I think your Benji is adorable.  I saw his pics earlier.  Good luck and welcome aboard.

I'm on here at least once a day too. Not ever having owned a dog on my own before and wanting the best for Rowan since I have just fallen madly in love with her  :D I try and find out as much as I can that and I tend to kinda have that 'new mom' freak out when anything new happens cuz I'm not quite sure whats normal puppy behavior and whats normal for Rowan and whats not so normal. And I love her to pieces and so don't wanna be one of those people that have this amazingly wonderful puppy that grows up to be this dog that you can't even take to the park cuz she does horrible things or people make uTube video's about her when she goes to the groomer cuz she is so hard to handle. Luckily tho so far Rowan has been great and other than what I can assume were only normal getting to know each other kinda glitches in the first few days/weeks we have had no monster issues (going potty in the rain is kinda a work in progress but she learns fast so I'm crossing my fingers that she learned this last bought of rain we got ;) )

By the way I'm Merideth  ;D and usually I have the long rambling posts cuz when i do finally get a chance actually sit and type out responses to the things I've glimpsed thru out the day I have like a million things I wanna say LOL  :D

Hi Aprill
Welcome to shorkietalk. Your shorkie is such a cute little thing. I never get surprised about what people say when they own a shorkie. It seems that these dogs are really good all round dogs.
Hope you enjoy the site and get some info that helps you. I also look forward to reading your experiences with Benji. :D

Thank you for the warm welcome everybody. It makes me feel a little more sane that I'm not the only one who is so absorbed with her dog(s). ;D
I'm taking Benji for his shots on Friday (Sept.5). I have no idea if he's even had ANY shots yet. There was a warning on the radio this morning about a sudden surge of Parvo in Calgary. Scared me to death because I take *them to the Park everyday. Coincidently I have a huge family BBQ/going away party for my neice on Saturday and we're having it at the park. Now I don't know what to do...I can't miss the BBQ, but I also don't want to leave Benji home all day - he's half the reason most of the people are coming..lol. Any suggestions?

* I have a 5 year old Bichon/ShihTzu named Max...he's my first "baby" , now I have "2 kids"

I have no clue about that  ???, I am kinda in a similar situation. I have a great park not far from my house that Rowan would LOVE but the vet that I want her to see we just couldn't get our schedules to fit til Sept 3rd and I have Rowan's shot records but I can't make any sense of them and know for 100% sure she hasn't had a single rabies shot so I don't take her to the park. Parvo freaks me out along with heartworm (the mosquitoes around here are HORRIBLE and I have no idea when her last treatment was) so I totally understand your feeling. If you find out a way to avoid things like that and still get to the park and share our wonderful *kids* with everyone I would love to know ;D

I know Max isn't a Shorkie, I just thought I'd show off the "whole family". They get along great even from the very first day. Max has taught him a couple of  things (like lifting his leg to pee). But I have to credit Benji too... before I got Benji ,I bought a fake grass thingy to put on the the patio ( I live in an apt.) for Max and there was no way he would go near it, he'd pee everywhere but there. When I got Benji...he took right to it and taught Max to use it! Now they both go on it. I guess someone (another dog) can teach an old dog new tricks...ha ha. ;D
Sorry, I guess I shouldn't have put the pic here. :-[

I will speak for myself and say that it is not a problem. Max is a cutie, and he is welcome. I love all animals. I started this site because I went to other websites and felt like I was an outcast because My Toby wasn't a "pure breed". This upset me very much so I talk to my husband who is a computer gooroo, about set up a website. He helped me set it up. So that's  how Shorkietalk came about. So no I don't mind Max being on the website, because I don't want this site to alienate anyone. :) Give them both a big hug for me.lol :D

Thank you very much Ann, that means a lot to me. I know exactly what you mean about feeling like an outcast. I almost feel guilty when I devote more time to "advertising" Benji than  I do Max granted, Max has had 5 years of me plastering his picture everywhere :D I try to give them both equal star time. LOL ;D
