Hi I just got my little shorkie last week. He is so adorable. Im not sure how often I can give him a bath. I like him to be clean but I dont want to dry his skin out. I have given him 3 baths this week. Is that ok? I use only natural organic soap, made with coconut oil. thank you for your help!

Hello-  I have had my little girl for a month now, and she's had a couple baths every week (mostly because in my attempt to paper train her, she has stepped in poo more than once!!!).  She seems to be doing fine- no itchy skin or anything!  I have been using the Hartz puppy shampoo...  I'm certainly not an expert though!!!  Congrats on your new baby  ;)

Hi I would just like to let you know that it is not really a good thing to bath your dog any more than once every 2 weeks, as you can wash oils from their coat. So unless it is really necessary I wounldn't wash your pup as often as you are. The main thing is brushing. You can get a conditioner that you can spray on your dogs fur when it is dry, which is good for their coat and also makes them smell nice. You can get this from your vet or pet shop. Thier are various brands availible.

Hello,

I generally give my puppy a bath every 3 weeks because his hair is pretty long. However, my vet says that is too much because it does dry out their skin and can be pretty uncomfortable for him. He recommends one good bath a month.  In between, I use grooming wipes that you can find at any pet store. They're kinda like baby wipes, but for doggies. They work great at loosening dirt on your dog's coat and you can get them scented or unscented. It's definitely worth a try in my opinion.

you arent supposed to wash them more than once every 2 weeks.  My vet said anything with oatmeal is great for them

Thanks for all the great input everyone. I really appreciate it. I took Rascal to get his shots today and he cried so hard it was horrible.  :'(

That's no good. It is always hard to take them to have their shots but we do need to do it other wise they will go through a lot more if they don't. It just like kids, when you take them for their shots they cry and even get sick for a couple of days but its better than them getting the illnesses that can kill them.

I would also like to welcome you to our website it is great to see you asking questions and I hope you get your answers. I hope in the future like most of our other members can give others advice and share your experiences.
Keep up the good work.  ;)
