New Here!
« on: January 01, 2010, 06:40:27 AM »
I found this board a couple weeks ago when I decided I wanted a Shorkie.  I've read tons of the old posts and finally have a minute to introduce myself.  My name is Christy and we just got our first Shorkie Baby on Christmas Eve!  We named him Blitzen aka Blitz. He was born October 19th and is almost 11 weeks old.  He's already doing great with sleeping in his crate at night and when we can't watch him (which isn't very often right now).  He hates going outside because it's way too cold but he pees on his puppy pads almost every single time he has to go.  However, with pooping he is only having a 50% success rate of hitting the pad.  He also likes to eat his poop, but based on what I read here I added a little pineapple juice to his food last night and hope that will change things.  He is a rambunctious little thing, but so sweet too!  I look forward to getting to know you all and learn about all your little furbabies!

Here's a couple pictures of Blitz
just after we got home with him on Christmas Eve

Christmas was tiring!

So glad you got help from this forum, even before you joined! I own a shorkie named Teddy, and he will be 11 months old tomorrow. He doesn't like going out in the cold either, but he will. Usually it's just to bark, and about every 8 out of 10 times to go potty. So I guess I can deal with those numbers. Oh, and sometimes he goes out to bark AND go potty, so that's OK too. We bribe him with a piece of his food (kibble), and that works out great. We say 'Teddy, come here! Want a treat?' and he comes darting up the steps and through the snow. Yeah, he doesn't eat HIS poop but he likes the cat's poop, so that's why he isn't allowed in the basement where the litterboxes are. That's just a bit about Teddy. I look forward to hearing your stories and seeing more pictures of cute little Blitz!
:D I love shorkies, especially T.B. :D

Welcome Christy.  Blitz is so cute.  I love the color.  We look forward to hearing much more about your life with Blitz.  Hope the pineapple helps.  My vet says meat tenderizer will do the same.  I did not give Mai Tai pineapple juice, I gave him pineapple chunks.  Don't know if it makes any difference.  Good luck and I look forward to reading your posts.

Your pup is so cute!! Roxy always had a hard time with pooping on the pads too... I always kind of chalked it up to poor aim. Shortly after we conquered the pee-pee pads, we made the transistion to going to the bathroom outside, which she does much better with. Now we still leave her pads if we will be gone for a while and she does use them most of the time. Good luck with training!!! Welcome to the board.

Hi Christy...welcome to the boards. ..Blitz is just adorable...how much does he weigh ?   Our shorkie is a girl named Bailey she is 10 months old and is 9 lbs.  It's cold here too but she still goes out to do her business....thankfully very quickly.....I also leave a pee pee pad down when we are going to be out for a while
