Raw Food Diet
« on: April 20, 2010, 10:26:22 AM »
Any thoughts? Anyone feed there dog a raw food diet? I am curious about how well the dog has adjusted and how they like it.

I am considering switching my puppy, but the thing about switching any dog to a raw food diet is they can't go back to eating kibble food, because they jsut won't like the food any more.

I feed minnie mee a raw food diet... sort of... I buy raw food and cook it... she loves it, and I don't have a picky eater at all.  I also think it's healthier.  But cooking works for her.  I feed her rabbit and lamb... in the end I feel I am wasting less food because she eats every bite.

Just make sure to include things other than meat.  I was feeding Mo chicken and rice every day, and it made his liver enzymes too high.  It seems Yorkies cannot take a very rich protein diet.

Jemma is on a the Raw  diet.  Raw means just that.  Everything must be raw only.  I do end up giving her raw veggies too, even a raw egg.  Nothing is cooked.  All raw.

You need to slowly change over or you might have a little bowel problem.
If you are going the total raw like I did, that includes bones.  Yes they will devour a raw chicken bone.  The key is non cooked bones.  Cooked bones break and splinter.  Raw do not.  They are pliable and have soft bone marrow inside which they love.  Jemma gets chicken, turkey and a little beef.  Her bowels tend to get too loose with beef.  So she is mostly raw chicken and turkey.  Muscle meat like leg, thigh and you must throw in a chicken heart or liver once in awhile.  Very small or you'll see loose stools.  She gets a raw egg once a week.  Crack it open, put it in her bowl and it's gone. Think how dogs ate in the wild before we domesticated them.  They didn't beat the eggs they found, hahaha. Raw sweet potatoes, raw carrots and her favorite, raw green beans.  Once in awhile she gets some pain yogurt, a little cottage cheese and she likes apples too.  I can't remember everything else I give her, lol.
When you cook for your fur baby it's home cooked meals.  When it's raw it's the Raw diet meal.  Jemma has been on it, hmmm, maybe 6-7 months and is doing wonderfully.  Look at her pictures in the showcase.  That's just from the raw meals she gets.  I think she looks pretty healthy.  But then I guess I would now wouldn't I?  lol
If you are serious about the raw, let me know and I can give you a little help if you'd like.
Be kinder than necessary for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
