LICKING
« on: September 17, 2009, 04:50:06 AM »
:P Ozzy is licking me A LOT.  Every morning he jumps in the bed and starts licking and short of throwing him off the bed I can't get him to stop.
I've read about dogs "grooming" other dogs.  Is that what he's doing?  Does he think I need a morning bath?

What have you done to deter licking?

p.s.  He doesn't lick my husband and kids.  This seems to be something he saves special for me!

Cash does that.. he goes straight for our mouths though.  He will lick the inside of my older dogs mouth and the neighbor dogs as well.  I can invision exactly what you are going through as there was one day he was on top of my daughter going nuts all over her face while she was on her back laughing holding him back.  :)

Bailey licks a lot too....i think it's our fault since when she would nip we would say..no bite give kisses.....she does it to everyone when she greets them......so i do have to start to train her not to......i've been bad since everyone loves her and does not mind it...

"Does he think I need a morning bath" ahahahahaha! I read online that dogs use licking to communicate certain things. Particularly if they lick your lips. Supposedly a baby pup will often lick their mother's lips and may lick another dog's lips to say hello as a gesture of like...friendship, in a kind of submissive way. Maybe that's why Ozzy only does it to you. He sees you as Mommy.

Mai Tai licks a lot on occasion and then does not do it again for weeks.  Maybe he just likes my soap.

Cody is a crazy licker in the morning. When he wakes me up really early to go out,(and I'm to tired to stay up) I'll up him in our bed with me, if there is skin showing it will get licked!! During the day he's fine unless you are laying down then it's lick city!!

I'm jealous! Monty is not very affectionate. He loves to be near...but not touching me. He'll chase me down, sniff sniff, then sit one foot away from me. He just likes to have me in his sites. Even on the couch, he doesn't like sitting on my lap or next to me, he sits on the other side of the couch. But if I walk away, he freaks out and chases me...again...just to lay down one foot away from me. He only licks in the morning when my boyfriend holds him over my face to wake me up.

Christine,  Mai Tai is just like Monty.  He always sits at the other end of the couch from me, but follows me everywhere.  I think he gets too hot sitting against us.

roxy licks A LOT, too. i think it has to do with the fact we praised her for "kissing" and scolding for biting haha.

Ozzy was the same way before we got his hair cut.  Now he's always on us.  I think he's cold now!
