Bathing
« on: September 07, 2009, 02:11:19 PM »
Though I know it has been a topic before, how often should you bathe your shorkie? Teddy is 7 months old as of September 2 and he has only been bathed twice. I know that that is probably way too small of a number for such an old puppy. And how many baths has your shorkie had?
:D I love shorkies, especially T.B. :D

Good subject.  Jemma gets a bath once every 2 weeks, once in awhile 3 weeks.

I bathe Mai Tai about once every two weeks. I bathe Mojito a little more frequently because he gets poop stuck on his hair.

It is recomended that you don't bath your dog too often. I bath Toby every 2 to 3 weeks. You can bath them more often but you should only use water. :D

i have to bath buch 2 xs a week he smells so bad, and rings me to the question of dry skin, he has dandruff soooooo bad what does anyone use. It s not from over bathing, sometimes we just use water to clean his coat. Also his fleas are so bad...we can t find anything to control them. I want to get him cut but his dad says it won't help.

With the dandruff I would suggest using conditioners. Especially the ones that have oatmeal or aloe vera in them. It also helps to comb them everyday. It helps the hair to produce natural oil. Also, try giving him a tsp. of olive oil in his food every now and then. This has helped Max with his dandruff and so far he hasn't had dandruff. Even when we bathe him once a week.

For the fleas, I would use K9 Advantix Multi. It's cheaper if you buy a whole years worth. I've heard people say that once a dog has fleas, they will have fleas for life. Cutting the hair short may help a bit but won't get rid of the problem. Again, make sure you comb him everyday with a flea comb.
