I'm such a idiot, I really am.  I go looking at dog food and get Solid Gold, barking at the moon, something like that.
I come home, check it one more time on the food review site.  The protein is too high for her.  They even give a warning at the bottom of the page about the protein with small dogs, grrrrr.  Already opened it, dang

Mai, Innova is rated 6 stars, good food, but again they also give a warning on the high protein content and small breed.
I'm still thinking about going the raw diet.  I don't have to guess if I do that, don't have to worry about what's in it either, grrrrr frustrating but I'll get it yet.  After all, it's not for me it's for Jemma.  What we do for our fur babies eh?

Shorkie, thanks for letting me know.  Now is my vet an idiot because he knows Mojito is small and I am worried about Liver Shunt, so why would he recommend such a high protein food?  If a dog has Liver Shunt, they need lower protein food.  I guess it is back to the drawing board for me?  I am going to look back at your earlier posts to see which one you said had 5 stars.  I appreciate your help.

Oh and sorry you bought the wrong food.  That is an annoying mistake.

That's ok Mai Tai.. I can ask the vet myself..  I can barely remember what I'm feeding him, can't expect you to remember.  :)
Shorkiejam- you can always donate the bag of food to the humane society..  :)  I feel your pain though, hopefully you didn't buy a large bag.

Shorkiejam... I'm having a love hate relationship with you right now.. Love, for making me think about the food I'm feeding my dogs... Hate, for making me think about the food I'm feeding my dogs. :)  I'm a woman obsessed right now.  When I bought Cash the Nature's Recipe food I only went to Petsmart... figured Petco sold the same thing.. this is not true.  Petco sells higher end foods.  They have brands like Wellness and Solid Gold which are both rated a 5.  Luckily I only bought Cash a small bag of food.. my older dog has a stomach of steel so he can eat anything.  I think I will go to Petco and buy a higher quality food for Cash and hope like hell that it's a good one.. It's disheartening when you were feeding your dog Canidae which had excellent reviews until just recently.  How's a person to know???

LOLOLOL Cash, I am right there with you.  I was thinking of Solid Gold too, as Innova is a 6 on the scale and too rich in protein for Mojito.  Mai Tai is so Shih-Tzu, I think he would be fine, but I want them both on the same food since they share half the time anyway.

Shorkie, thanks for all the thought provoking info.  Keep it up.  It helps keep the site interesting.

Pa-leez don;t hate me, well just a little.  Anyway, still think I'm gonna go the raw route.  Just doing more research on it.
This isn't something I just do on the spur.  I bred and showed confirmation in Golden Retrievers.  I did for years.  Now I'm alone and live in a retirement park.  NOOOOO, I'm not 65 so don't even go there, lol  Let's just say I am the youngest one here, and trust me, it does make you feel old though.
Anyway,  now it's just me and Jemma.  I researched Goldens to the hilt when I had them.
Now I research to the hilt on our little fur babies.
there is lots more to come but maybe I shouldn't throw it on you all at once?  And no, not just food.
you all let me know when you're ready for more, hehehe

Thank you for the info...both my Shorkie and my cat are on Science Diet, and I bought it because I THOUGHT it was a good quality food  :'( I should have known better than that with a food that vets push so heavily. I've had the same problems with drugs from my doctor. I'll definitely be changing food for both of my pets.

It's a little heartbreaking because I am always careful not to buy cheap food after losing my last cat. He was a picky eater and would only eat Alley Cat. It caught up to him in the form of crystals in his urine. By the time I realized something was wrong he was so blocked up his own urine was poisoning him :( Turns out it was from low-quality food.

I mostly try and give Max organic dog food which he has now started to not like to eat. Just like most kids not liking to eat veggies or anything that is good for them...haha I guess dogs can be the same way too.
