Not Having Fun
« on: August 26, 2009, 07:11:55 AM »
I must say that I am not enjoying Mojito's puppy hood as much as I did Mai Tai's.  He is such a needy little fellow because of his tiny size that I find I now have very little time for Mai Tai.  Hope this was not all a big mistake, though at 3 in the morning when Mojito has to pee, I am sure it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Just venting, but I feel bad for Mai Tai.

((Hugs)) I'm sure it will get better! I'm sure Mai Tai enjoys whatever time you give him.

Mai Tai: I am also torn with this decision you have made. Harley loves to play with other dogs. When we are on our walks he stops at every house that his dog friends live at and whines at the end of there driveway. I take him to Daycare so he can socialize, but only once a week b/c it is so expensive. I have filled out an application to adopt a 2 yr old shih-tzu that is in rescue. Now I am second guessing myself. Can I love another dog as much as Harley and what if Harley doesn't like another dog in "his house". Big decisions!!

Thanks guys, I appreciate all of your support.  Mai Tai and the puppy seem to get along sometimes but it is hard to tell.  Mai Tai will NOT leave Mojito alone, and I often have to separate them.  Mai Tai wants to play, but Mojito is too small right now and will get hurt.  It is very difficult trying to keep two dogs separate in the same house, and I don't want Mai Tai to feel as though he is being punished for wanting to play.  When Mojito is bigger, IF he gets bigger, I think they will be great together, but right now he is only 2 lbs to Mai Tai's 13.

Cody, I see your dilemma, but I think adopting a 2 yr. old would be better than getting a puppy.  You should not have the same issues we have.  Our issues are due to Mojito's size and the fact that he is not housebroken yet.  He wakes me every night to go pee, even after going pee at midnight, he has me up at 3 or 4 am.  His bladder is so small it can't hold much, and he goes frequently because I have to feed him frequently to get weight on him.  I am hoping that it will just get better and easier every day, but feel I am neglecting Mai Tai.  Mojito needs to be fed 5 times a day, and he needs Nutrical in between.  The problem is he hates the Nutrical, so it is a fight getting it into him, and he is not a good eater either.  He never eats everything I give him, and I give him tiny amounts.  It takes me forever to get him to eat, then he has to go out immediately.  It just takes an enormous amount of time, much more than when Mai Tai was a puppy.  I just did not plan for this.

Sorry if I sound like I am whining.  I just hope I did not make a huge mistake.  Getting a second dog is not the problem, it is the dog I got that is the problem.  Don't get me wrong, I love him, but did not expect so many issues.  He would be a difficult dog alone, never mind with another dog, two cats, and 5 children to deal with.  I handled quadruplets though, so I don't know why one little puppy has me so tired.

Thanks for listening. I think I am just very tired today.  Hope all of you are well.

I love listening, Karen, and I'm so sorry that you aren't enjoying the puppyhood of Mojito. I'm sure it will get better through the months though. Not to be offensive, but it's Harley that might eb adopting the shih tzu.  :)
:D I love shorkies, especially T.B. :D

Karen you can vent here all you'd like....you really are a trouper with your 5 kids, the cats, Mai Tai and now Mojito.....and it sounds like Mojito would be a handful all by himself...with the feedings and going out a few times a night.....my hubby would be flipping if we had a pup like that so I give you a lot of credit for your patience and being able to handle all that's on your plate........when do you bring Mojito back to the vet to see how he is doing ?

Teddy, you are right, I meant Harley, not Cody, just so tired.  Mojito goes to the vet on Sept. 9 for more shots, but I am going to call to see if I can bring him in tmw just to get weighed.  I really need to know how I am doing in terms of getting enough food into him.  This so reminds me of when my girls were little.  That is why I think it is stressing me out so much.  My girls were premature and the youngest one was only one pound 9 oz at birth.  I had to feed her every 3 hrs, and she was a horrible eater.  I was always terrified she was starving to death, and she used to forget to breathe about 14 times a day (not kidding, she was on an apnea monitor).  This pup is bringing back all those hard memories, and I am feeling anxious all the time about him.  Am I nuts or what??? LOL.  You guys are great for listening to me.  I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it.

No need to Mai tai, and I'm sorry that I was like that. I know that things will get brighter for you in the future, and that everything will be okay. I love listening about your progress and everything that happens so you don't need to thank us.

Nothing to be sorry about, Teddy.  I am glad you corrected me as I did not want to be addressing the wrong person.

Took Mojito to the vet today because we thought he had broken his leg.  Thank God it was just a sprain.  He was running around in the yard chasing bumble bees, and then we he came in, he would not put any weight on his right front paw and he was shaking.  I could not imagine what he had done, so we took him right to the vet because his bones are so tiny.  So glad it is just a sprain.  She says it happens with these very small dogs.  I was so relieved.  Makes me really want that pet insurance.

On a good note, he now weighs 2 lbs, 6 1/2 oz, so he has gained 5 oz in 10 days.  The vet says that is good news because it proves he can gain weight and is thriving.  I am relieved about that now too.  She dewormed him just in case parasites are making it hard for him to gain and killing his appetite.  A stool sample was negative, but she said sometimes they have parasites anyway.  Hopefully, he will start eating better soon.

How is little Teddy?  Hope all of you are well.  I will update you when I have news.  Mai Tai is an angel as always, and a big strong boy, Thank God.
