Might have gone too far
« on: August 12, 2009, 06:07:26 PM »
Sooo.... I decided I was going to take Ollie to the groomer's again after a bad experience at the last one.  His ears weren't cleaned, they barely trimmed him, no ear hairs were plucked, and he was scared to death when we got home.  This was a much better experience.  Friendly staff, Ollie was happy, very clean, only one problem.  I decided I would give him a very close cut as August in Indiana is miserable and he has been sleeping on the A/C vents!  So I told the groomer to cut to 1/2 inch.  I'll post some before and afters.  Although this cut may be pretty normal, our shaggy little Ollie is no more and we are kind of traumatized.  I think this may be the cut to get each summer but we will definitely be growing it out for awhile.  It aged him by years we think.  What do you guys think?

Before..............

I know how you feel! Dh "made" me have cody cut really short cuz of the weather down here, I was so sad all his fluff was gone  :'(. But now it looks "cute" again! But I said the same thing about Cody he looked so old, but it only lasted til the next day.

the good thing about hair (as with human hair): it grows. And from your pics, I think Ollie will be much more comfy for the muggy August weather. I do like how they kept his face looking like a shorkie. I'll remember that when I start getting Roxy groomed. I asked my groomer and I guess it's cheaper to get them shaved closer down to 1/2"-3/4"  than to use the extra guard on the shaver and do the more standard shorkie "puppy cut" and hand trim certain areas. Not sure how I'll end up keeping her 'do. Thanks for posting the pics!

I think he still looks cute and having been to Indy in the summer, I'm sure he'll be feeling much better too!

We did the same thing to Mai Tai and he did look much older too, but after a few weeks he was his puppy looking shaggy self again.  He loves having his hair really short.  It seems to make him more lively.  I guess because he is not so hot.  Yours looks adorable either way.

we cut roxy's really short at the beginning of the summer and i am glad we did... it's been so muggy lately. it grows out and the good thing is that it won't be as soon that he needs it cut again. i always think they leave roxy's face too long though and around the ears... i always end up trimming her up after she finishes with the groomer... but, i know she isn't a good patient lol. luckily we know our groomer... because she does NOT like being brushed, hairs plucked, being cut and she does not like her nails cut either. i always feel bad for the guy when he comes to pick her up haha.

I think your dog is still adorable.  It's just such a drastic change for you.. In no time you're going to wonder why you ever thought he looked goofy in the first place.   :D

Aww, Ollie is so cute! I don't think that you went too far at all, his fur will grow back quickly, I know Teddy's did.
:D I love shorkies, especially T.B. :D

Thanks for the positive comments.  I wish my husband was as optimistic as you guys!  He definitely does NOT like it.  Oh well, It's just hair.  It will grow back.

Now that's the positive way to think about the situation! It grows back just like our hair grows back, and shorkie fur grows back rather quickly according to Teddy's fur.
:D I love shorkies, especially T.B. :D
