help please
« on: May 25, 2008, 09:31:58 AM »
My babys name is Macie and she is my little angel. My whole life I have only had chihuahuas, it was the only type of dog my mom would allow me to have. However, when  I saw Macie(my shorkie) I fell in love with her! the only thing is Im little worried about the grooming costs, Im on a tight budget so I dont know If I can afford to get her groomed every 6 to eight weeks. Is there anyone who does the grooming themself or that has any suggestions for me. Thanks  :)

Hi unfortunately I don't groom my dog I do have someone that does it. I don't always get Toby groomed every 6 weeks. It depends on the weather in the colder months it might be 12 weeks before I do it. I have a lady who comes to my house. I do know that their are some people who use dog clipers and do it themselves but I do think you need to find someone who can show you what to do first. I would think your vet or local pet shop maybe able t help you. Also ask your vet if they know of someone that might do it at a reasonable amount. The main thing is to keep there eyes clear.
Sorry I can't help you any more.  :o

Honestly, you can do whatever you set your mind to --- just watch a groomer for the first time, and see how they do it --- before you attempt it yourself.

PetCo and Petsmart both having groomers that groom right infront of you --- so you can learn the tricks of the trade before attempting it yourself.  Plus they aren't as expensive as outside groomers.

My little one Theodore cost about $28.00 for his grooming experience, but that was a full shampoo, brush, nail clipping, ear cleaning and cut.  So it was well worth it for me.  But yes, it can add up very quickly.

Hopefully this helped!

Yeh I pay $30 for my groomer. She  comes to my home and brushes him, clips his nails, cuts his hair, washes him and blow dries his hair and styles it. She will even put a bow in it for me if I wanted. I dont like Toby with bowes so I get her to cut the hair away from his face. It's just my preference. I tried cutting his hair but he wouldn't stay still for me also I have poor eye sight so I think it is best that I leave it to a groomer. Also with the nails I'm worried that I might cut them wrong and make them bleed. He has black nails which make it hard to see where to cut. :o
