Puppy mills
« on: July 22, 2009, 12:19:56 PM »
Just incase anyone doesn't know, DO NOT BUY FROM PETSTORES. The puppies come from puppy mills. Pet stores have unhealthy dogs and it just upsets me!  :'( Did anybody get their puppy from a pet store?  ??? If you did, please be honest. It's ok. I'm not mad. Just be careful where you get your pup
:D I love shorkies, especially T.B. :D

I completely agree with you about Pet stores, but when I see the little puppies in there, I feel so bad for them, I want to take them all home.  Most of the time, they have big bloated bellies from worms, and they are sleeping where they poop.  It is so sad.  I try not to go into petstores at all, but in the mall, the kids always want to go see the puppies.  I always announce, loudly, to my children, "I know they are cute girls, but NEVER buy a puppy from a pet store because they come from puppy mills, and are unhealthy."  The people shopping there can hear me, so I hope it makes an impression.

That's good. I hope everyone learns about puppy mills and the mills get shut down! Maybe they will eventually.

Well I hope you don't think bad of me but yes I bought my Toby from a pet shop. I think our pet shops are more regulated over here they can not sell a puppy without a vet check, they also have to be chiped and when you pruchase a puppy you get a certificate to have your puppy desexed when it is old enough. Also the vet check is when you have purchased the puppy so you take the pup to the vets.

I'm not saying it still doesn't happen as we are trying to crack down on the mill's too. I did go to the RSPCA but they didn't have any small breeds at the time.

Well, I'm not mad. I am just glad that you were honest. I bought a puppy from a pet store before I knew about all this puppy mill stuff. He actually turned out healthy but that was a while ago. Apparently Toby was one of those lucky pups!  ;D

Hi Ann,
What is the puppy mill situation over there?  Is it as bad as it is here?  I was just wondering.
