Clothes and confidence??????
« on: May 29, 2009, 09:37:16 AM »
Yesterday, I bought Chase a little cute shirt ;).  My husband said when we (humans) put clothes on dogs, it does something to their  confidence :-\.  Is that true?

Does he think it increases or decreases their confidence?  LOL

I am not much on dressing up my dog, but I appreciate that some people love it.  I have been watching too much Cesar Milan where he feels we have to remember a dog is a dog in order to fulfill their needs and not try to make people out of them.  I do put a sweater on Mai Tai when it is really cold, but the vet says it really isn't necessary unless I am staying out for 2 hrs or so in freezing weather.  Shorkies have a double coat, so I guess they stay pretty warm.  Then again, they are tiny, so who knows.

i have lots of winter clothes for roxy... hoodies and jackets, she always shivers out in the cold. i never leave clothes on her when we are inside and i don't put any on her when it's warm out. just want her to keep warm!! she also has a little rain coat too because i hate taking her out to go potty when it's pouring and she comes in soaked.

My hubby feels the same way. I think it's cute and ok in moderation. Like for famliy pics and stuff. Or if we lived where it got cold I would get Cody sweaters (though I did see a really cute hoodie I was going to get just so I could bug hubby with it lol ;D)
But that's just me  ;)

I have a feeling that's your husband's way of telling you he'd rather not have the dog wearing clothes.  :)  I know my husband thinks it's goofey.  Yet during this cold wet Spring when we were sitting out on the soccer fields watching our daughters play he never once thought it was a bad idea for him to have a coat on.  Cash was always shivering while out there.  Karen said that Shorkie's have a double coat, I wonder if some are thicker than others as Cash's hair seems so fine and soft.  Much like human hair, and not all that thick?

I guess some are different than others Cash.  Mai Tai's coat is sooooooooooo thick, but now that I think of it, his brother Max's coat is thin.  Max is much smaller too.  I agree they should wear a coat if cold.  I don't know what to do with this heat though.  It is not even hot yet and it is affecting Mai Tai.  He is shaved but still just wants to lay down in the shade on warm days.  Anyone else have the same problem?

the heat seems to get to Indy, too, so while we're out side, i have ice cubes for her to play with and lick, also she LOVES to play in the hose while we're watering!! At petco, i bought her a teething toy that you get wet and freeze, she also loves that!

Cash doesn't like the heat much either, makes him pretty sleepy.  Even with his thinner shorter hair.

Bailey has a thinner coat as well....looks more like Yorkie hair that thick Shih Tzu hair..... baileys hair is growing out  and different colors  it's black on the tips..then..white....then  redish then tan...which i'm told will be her final color...the tan hair growing in seems softer than the black that's on the ends........she also seems to sleep more in the heat

Well, Teddy does have a letterman jacket, a sweater and a halloween costume for his first halloween this year, but he chews his clothes. I only put them on a couple of times when we go somewhere special or just to make somebody happy. For example, my neighbor had a party and Teddy came and wore his letterman jacket. Everone just loved him! :-* It was awesome! :D But I am not really sure what it does to their confidence.
:D I love shorkies, especially T.B. :D

Bailey does not have any clothing....but I'm sure she will need a sweater/jacket when it gets cold out here.....no one here even wants to keep the bow in her hair the groomer puts in when she gets her haircut so clothing would not cut it...although i've seen some cute outfits....and i like seeing photos of the pups in clothing

I don't think clothes affect a dog's confidence in any way, as they are not like people that way.  I think they can keep them warm when it is super cold, and make them look adorable though.

Not all Shokies have a undercoat at all.  My Jemma takes after the Yorkie coat and a undercoat doesn't exist for them.  Just a thin soft coat.  Therefore when it's cold out Jemma needs something to wear. Jemma doesn't tolerate cold well.  In the winter when my heat kicks on, she runs over to the vent and lays right on it, lol

Mai Tai has a thick undercoat, so he does not need clothes, but Mojito is a totally different story.  He has fine, thin fur and is cold, so he is getting a wardrobe this weekend.
