Cash's tail is not docked, it is mostly straight with just a slight curve up.

That sounds like a Yorkie tail.  Does it look like it could be easily stepped on?  That is the reason the vet gave for docking my friends dog, I think they may be full of it.

Mai Tai- Took me a long time to respond to this question.  :)  I don't think Cash's tail could be easily stepped on.  I guess if he were laying down.. but in that case he himself could be easily stepped on right?  lol.

I purchased Jemma over the internet with 2 months of constant contact with the breeder.  Had her flown in.  No problems, just gave her some nutrical when she landed due to stress and her weight, plus missing a meal.  She was 9 weeks and 2 pounds.  they can't fly a pup unless it is 2 pounds.
Truth is, if there is a local breeder with a good rep, go there.  You can visit the pup and see what kind of setting the pup is being raised in.

Jemma's tail is not docked and I wouldn't have it docked.  A lot of people are going against docking.  If they weren't suppose to have their tails, they wouldn't be born with them.  I have never seen a dog with a tail straight down.  Think it's hogwash.  Just my opinion but I think it's cruel.

I don't think it's cruel, but I wouldn't have docked Teddy's tail. And now that he has a kink, I think that we might have had a problem if the breeder had decided to dock it. And some careless people just decide to dock it the rubber band way and the dogs get hurt in the process. In that way, yes it is cruel, Jemma.

Oh, I had a cocker spaniel a while ago and he had his tail docked. But that's like what you are supposed to do for cockers. But the person we got him from was very nice so I think the vet docked it.

You don't think cutting off a baby tail is cruel.  Did you ever see it done or hear them scream?  I never want to hear that scream again.  It was gosh awful.

Shorkiejem, I also don't like docking.  I did not mean though that the Yorkie tail was straight down. I meant it went out straight and since they are low to the ground could get stepped on.  That is what I read anyway, though I did not necessarily agree with it.  I don't get why they dock tails, ears, etc.  Mai Tai's tail is docked but it was done without my knowledge before my friend gave him to me.

Funny, I am way against having a baby's ears pierced too as a lot of people have the tradition of doing.  I just don't get it.

Yeh I agree with Karen on this one I don't know why we cercumsise baby boys either. I beleive that if we were were born with thing they must have a purpose. The same for animals.
I understand that sometimes we need to have things removed because of health issues and then that is neccessary but removing tails is only a cosmetic thing.
Well thats what I think!!! ::)
