ideas?
« on: April 29, 2008, 10:03:33 PM »
hi.  I have a Shorkie, and within a few months, bought one for my mom as well.  They are both 10 months old, and have had a couple haircuts between them.  I have tried the puppy cut,  and I believe it was called a "lamb-4" cut.
I didnt like the lamb cut on my little Molly,  she is very small, (6 lbs) and I found it made her look even smaller than she is... and the long moustache hairs I didn't like at all.
Teddy, (my moms dog), is going for a haircut tomorrow and I am just going to let the groomer do whatever she sees fit with him...
I was wondering if any of you have ideas, or pictures, as to what kind of cut these beautys should have?

I have a groomer she cuts Toby for me. I had him what we call here shorn. This a very short cut. Ididn't like it very much at all it just didn't look like my Toby. So I just get her to trim his hair, and close cut around his eyes. His picture at the top left corner is how he looks know.

I have been trimming Sadie's hair myself (too cheap to take her to a groomer). I bought a kit from Petsmart by Conair. It has an electric trimmer with several attachments, nail clippers, scissors, comb, brush, ribbons and bows, and an instructional DVD. I've only used the scissors to keep her hair trimmed that grows towards her eyes. If I get brave enough to use the electric trimmer, I think I'll use the longer attachment to do her rear end and the shorter one to trim her paws. I spoke with a groomer who owns a Yorkie and she told me to leave her bangs long enough to shade her eyes from the sun. It's kind of fun, but Sadie has to be in the mood and be relaxed enough to let me trim her.

Ideally Shorkies are suppose to be groomed every two to three weeks, as they overheat with their long fur here in Florida.

I know Theodore can't stand being hot for very long --- and loves when he gets his "PUPPY-CUT." Yes, I get the standard "Puppy Cut" with the local groomer who comes to my vets office.  I got Theodore groom last Wednesday for about $28.00.  The groomer cut his coat down, cut around his private parts, and shaped up his face.  Plus gave him a bath --- brushed him, trimmed his nails and cleaned his ears.

And today Carlito is getting his first grooming treatment --- so I will post pictures of him after that has been completed.

Yeh I only pay $30. My Groomer comes to my home and does every thing. I have too get someone to do it for me as I have poor eye sight and I'm afraid that I might hurt him, especially those little nails. Even my groomer has cut too high with them and coursed them to bleed. :o

It's hard to put a name on a style of clipping - everyone calls them different things. As a shorkie is a crossbreed ( don't get mad at me for that), they don't fit into a style name - Lamb clips and puppy clips are generally Poodle clip terms.
Really it comes down to the length you want - extremely short all over, thru to not having any hair cut off and just the ends trimmed. In the country I have found people like long on the body and really short legs ( to reduce burrs and prickles catching). I think it looks funny but every one has their own likes.
Nails are always fun to clip Ann - and black nails always the hardest,,,lol

Gee some of those prices are cheap - in Australia the average is about $50 for a full hair cut!!

I am in NJ and was quoted a price of 45 for grooming.  The groomer says it should be done every 6 weeks.  Is that true?

Generally I have it done around 6weeks but in winter time I find I go 8 weeks. Mainly because of the cold I like to keep his coat fairly long to keep him warm. In summer more frequent to keep him cool. :D

Hi
Our 6 month old shorkie is also named Mollie!  We are planning to have her first grooming next week. I don't know what my options are for how to have it cut. She looks shaggy now, except for around her face where I tried to cut her myself and it looks terrible!  Like the bad haircut moms give little kids!  What should I ask for if I want her coat full but not shaggy?

I'm sorry but I don't know what they call the cuts that they do hear but I would just explain what you want done and they should know what you mean. I alway get a long cut so all they do is trim it with scissors and use clipers around the face, feet and legs. :D

I just had my shorkie groomed by someone who comes to my house and he did such a good job (it cost 60.00 plus 10 tip) it was well worth it as I find except for his nails his hair after a good cut not short lasts a few months. Plus I'm very picky as his first experience was with a wacko who spoke on the phone while she was removing hair with a scissor from his ears, and threatened to cut his p. off if he didnt behave, I'm glad he bit her I couldn't get out of there fast enough but he is not cooperative at all. I like my romeos hair punky like rod stewart on top and at one time the ends of his hair had black tiips on dark blonde then very blond hair, and he has that cowel like a lion or chewbacca (as my husband says) I must post a picture as I am a proud mommy of my shorkie (my friends think Im nuts, as I never wanted any animals)
