I'm curious how you know if their blood sugar is low?  I have Cash on a schedule with his food and water as well.  he eats at 8-1-6 and we take the water up after 8-8:30.  However he doesn't always eat the whole bowl when i give it to him, actually he rarely eats it all.  So I just leave it out until the next feeding schedule and add more to whatever was left.

When the blood sugar is low they act lethargic.  If you cannot rouse them to play etc., then give them some nutrical.

Thanks, this has not a problem with him.  Perhaps he doesn't like his food, or just doesn't need to eat as much as the bag says he does.  :)  This last Friday we had a 90 degree day, and I noticed he didn't tolerate the heat really well (slept alot).  We have a family room in our basement so we spent a good portion of the day down there, which helped wake him up.  Do Shorkies like the water?  We have a boat and go out on the river whenever we can during the summer and I was really hoping he'd be able to come out with us.  Are they swimmers?

YES! My shorkie loves the water.  She's just like a labrador only even more fun.  She loves the boat.  Loves to swim.  And she even dives under water to fetch something.  My husband takes her for walks where there is a small stream and even though the water is a bit swift, she never hesitates to jump in.  But she's at her funniest after she's been in the water.  She runs around like crazy rolling on the grass to dry off.  Really hyper  ;D

Oh, I'm so glad to hear that... I hope Cash likes the water too!  I know what you mean about the crazy behavior after they get wet.  Very comical!

Mai Tai likes his bath, but I hope he doesn't start trying to jump in our inground pool this summer.  The chlorine would be bad for his skin and his nails would be bad for our liner.  We have a fence around the pool, but with 5 kids, I am sure he will end up in the pool area on more than one occassion.

If he sees the kids playing in the pool he will want to be with them.  After all he sees himself as "one of them" right?  Just make sure to hose him off real good once he's done playing in the water.  The most important thing we had to teach our dog, when we had a pool, was where it was safe to get out.  They have to be shown where the steps are or get a ramp for them.
