Adult Teeth

My little Roxy is almost four months old... I'm just curious as to when your puppies started getting their adult teeth in?

If I remember correctly the first baby tooth fell our around 5 months and by 7 months she had her full set of new teeth and for sure by 8 months she had all her adult teeth even the back ones

Hey all !

Should I change Baxter's diet when he starts losing baby teeth?  Will he still be able to eat dry food?

Mai Tai had no problem eating dry food when he lost his baby teeth.  According to my vet, dry food is the best to keep Shorkies on because Yorkies tend to have bad teeth.  The dry food is much better for them.

Hi

Yeh just keep giving him what you are giving him but probably a bone or denta bone would be good to help clean the teeth and keep them healthy.

Take Care

That is right Ann.  I forgot to mention the dentabones.  I give Mai Tai the mint ones so his breath is good too.  Sometimes I give him Nutradent instead, just to change it up a little.  He likes both.

i think they really break the food down mostly with their back teeth. roxy has no bottom front teeth right now, she looks so funny! i think this teething stage is worse than when she got her baby teeth in.

worse in the way where she needs to constantly be biting or chewing something. like it's involuntary and she can't help it.

So I know we have all discussed the vets recommendation of having baby teeth pulled while our dogs were in to be fixed.. When Cash was in, he did not need to have any teeth pulled.. to which I thought duh!  :)  To me it was just a given that his baby teeth would fall out when the adult ones were ready....So wouldn't you know that I took a look in his mouth the other day and there are at least two adult teeth that grew in and the baby ones are still there!  Arrgg...  :o So I'm going to wait a bit before I call the vet and hope that they just come out on their own.  Currently they are not loose at all though.  Wondering if anyone had to have teeth pulled after their dogs have already been neutered.

Bailey hasn't been nutered yet...so I can't help...but your question has me wondering if I should ask the vet about her teeth when I bring her in next month...I would have thought the same as you that their baby teeth would fall out when the adult teeth were ready to come in

When I had Max neutered 2 weeks ago the vet did check his teeth and told me that it didn't need to be pulled because they were a little loose so they will just come out on their own. I guess it also helped that Max was kinda playing with his loose tooth. I think he was trying to push it out with his tongue. If some of the baby teeth are loose, you can just pull it out yourselves. It doesn't hurt them at all. That's what we did.

When Teddy got neutered, he had to have 3 teeth pulled but 2 practically fell out.

:D I love shorkies, especially T.B. :D
