Well, I tried Blue dog food, she hated it, so I went back to Wellness which she likes and will stick with it.  Miss Ava turned 1 yesterday.

Happy Birthday Ava! Have you gotten prettier being one year old. Angel likes Wellness also. I'm staying on it. She is finally eating dog food because I guess I'm finally keeping at it and making her too. It got five stars from the AAACO.

Just be careful that it doesn't have TOO much protein bc that's bad for them. Especially since ours are half Yorkies. Stormy had Instinct once and REALLY liked it. I considered switching her over to that, which is also grain free, but I'm not comfortable with the high amount of protein and fat in it.

Why was your vet so against a raw diet?

The Wellness core reduced fat has 32 percent protein in it. Do you think that's too much? The other low fat ones weren't grain free. I'm just starting my other two dogs on Blue Buffalo  and it said a low fat of 12 percent but it didn't say the high fat. I'm wondering if this would be too much fat for her? I think I would mix it. Blue has 26 percent protein. Stormy's on Blue now right? Wellness said 10 percent low fat and 12 percent high fat.  The vet told me to get off of the raw diet because he was scared of the bacterias in it ( salmonilia, ecoli.) He scared me so I took her off of it even though she was doing good on it. Like we all say the vets don't know about nutrition. I think a raw diet would be good. She was younger than and I just didn't know what to do because she wouldn't eat her dog food but the vet made it so strong he really scared me so I switched.

Last week when I was at Pet Smart I bought a can of Wellness dog food, Miss Ava just loves it!  I mix some with her dry food and she eats it all.  So glad I found food that she really enjoys.

Gracie refused to eat kibble when I first got her so i made her food for her the first year of her life. Finally I found the Stella & Chewy's. I wanted to feed her the frozen raw version but found that there was no way to get it shipped to me. I recently found a very good frozen food from a company called Paw Naturaw. I purchased a case for just about $14.00 more than what I pay for the freeze dried S&C. The quantity I got was quite a bit more though.
When I cooked for Gracie she liked the food as long as I didn't put grain in it. At first I used brown rice or white rice, oatmeal and other grains. She would turn her nose up to it no matter what meat I put with it.
Recently my dog food order didn't come in as soon as it should have so I made her raw ground turkey mixed with a cooked sweet potato and some finely chopped green beans, peas and carrots and raw egg. I cooked the sweet potato just because it is easier to mix into the other food. I also gave her "The Missing Link" supplement in each serving. I always use more meat than veggies.
I don't know how she knows that grains are not good for her but she will not eat them.
