Tell me about your furry family!

My Nova isn't a full shorkie-mom is a shipoo and dad is a full blooded yorkie. But none of our pets are full blooded- my Bella is a Doberman/shepherd mix - gorgeous & she thinks she is as small as Nova and truly believes when we are walking if she gets tired that she has every right to be carried! And our rocky (Rockstar) is a lab/pit mix, solid black with a very small diamond of white on his chest- great protector of my girls.

Well let's see, we have a HUGE family of pets. 

Max & Maggie-9 month old Shorkies (Mom was a Shih tzu and Dad a Yorkie)
Rocky & Kahlua-2 1/2 years old (Lab mix)
Ivy(12), Daisy(11), Bailey(8 ), Brandy(7), Tinkerbell(2 1/2), Kasey(2), Dusty(7 mo) (all our cats in numerical age order).
10 fish (mixed kinds)

Then for human family there is myself, my mother, and my two girls (11 & 7).  Suffice it to say we have a big family.

Wow...we have quite a list too...here goes:

3 Inside Kittens that we are raising after mom left them at 3 weeks...they are currently 10 weeks old.
Approximately 9 outside/barn cats
2 roosters
6 hens

My daughter has a shorkie, Ellie, who is 18 months old.
My son has a shiapoo, Lola, who is 8 months old.

We also have 2 rescue kitties- Bob & Lily- when we rescued them we had to bottle feed them and didn't think they would make it. They were soooo tiny when we found them it is hard to believe they are now 15 & 17 pounds! Bob is orange and white (He has an orange heart on his left side! and Lily is a calico)

Gracie is an only dog. She has been raised with several kitties though. We live in a wooded area outside of town and people like to dump their cats here for some reason. When we first moved here there was quite a feral cat population. We have spayed and neutered as many as possible and found homes for several litters of kittens but I still have several that cannot be re-homed because they are so fearful of strangers. Half of them live outside until the snow covers the ground and it is too cold to stay out there. Then they come in for the winter. The others are strictly indoor cats. Gracie knows she is not a cat. She feels it is her responsibility to keep them all in line and to let me know when one wants to come in. She is just a take charge kind of girl.

Ava Dad is a Yorkie Mother is a Shih Tzu.  We have a cat we adopted from a shelter when he was 10 weeks old, he is now 19.  he is bigger than our dog. lol  Just myself and my Husband.  I will be 80 in February, hubby a big younger. *S*

We have a small family compared to most on here! its just me, my boyfriend, and Charlie who will be 1 next month (his mom is a shih tzu and dad a yorkie). We want another dog though, just waiting for the right time (probably not for a least a year and a half or more)

I'm probably going to be told off about what I'm going to say. Here goes as far as I'm concerned there is no such thing as a pure breed dog. All the so called breeds we no of are man made. The closes thing to a pured breed is a wolf. Well I've said it I'm sorry if I have offended anyone but it is true. It gets my back up that breeders get on their high horse about their doogs being pure breeds.

All our dogs are beautiful no matter what they have in them. In fact I have had what you call a pure breed Collie and I had more health problems with her than I ever had with the mixed breed dogs that we owened.

I know what your taking about, Ann. There are forums that get all bent out of shape about people mixing breeds. It's true that all "purebreds" were started by people putting dogs of certain types together. You would never get a breeder to admit it though. They say if you want a mixed breed to get it from a shelter or rescue. But how is paying up to $2000.00 for one of their purebred dogs going to help any dog in a shelter? I'm happy with my "mutt." All the dogs I have seen on this site are darlings. We will never convince those who disagree though.

I agree with you so strongly Ann. All dogs were made by man except the wolf. I think mixed dogs or just as good or better than pure bred dogs. It makes me so mad when purebred breeders stub there noses at mutts  or "designer breeds or aka "mutts" as pure bred breeders call them. I replied to a newsletter in the town where we got Angel. I just came upon it when I was looking up what dogs were for adoption where I got Angel. This person wrote in cutting down mutts and designer breeds or aka "mutts " as she called them. I told her off because I was so mad and that's not like something I would do. I didn't get no reply from this person last I've seen. One hundred years from now our shorkies might be considered a purebred. I don't care if they are or not not but that's how they make new breeds.

I am so sorry if I offended anybody also. I just think mixed or designer(also called hybrid) breed dogs get put down too much. I have nothing against pure bred dogs because I've had a couple already myself and they were wonderful dogs.
