Also I agree autoimmune diseases are on the rise. I didn't mention I also have fibromyalgia and its getting worse. My husband's boss and I went on the computer one time and looked up foods I should eat and vegetables and fruits was a major food also was fish like tilapia fish. I'm trying to eat healthier. Also I just read an article that was put on my husbands facebook that diet drinks are so bad for us because of the aspartame in it. That also includes nutrisweet and all the foods with that in it. I heard this a few years ago so I quit drinking diet mostly and just drink coke. I think our dogs need to eat better because diseases are on the rise for them too. Like you said from those fillers and who knows what else.

I think a dog that is not used to that kind of protein needs to get into it slowly. But a combination of raw food and a grain based food is difficult on the body. Studies have shown that a high protein diet has no different effect on the body than a tested kidney diet as far as producing stones  or other problems in dogs. This study was conducted by specialists in the field and the reference can be found on that site.
The Stella & Chewy's that Gracie is on has a protein content of 27 to 30% which may be high in some people's eyes but she does well on it and I give her purified water out of a bottle a couple of times a day. She likes drinking it out of the bottle better than a bowl although she always has a bowl of water available.  I was giving her what I consider a really good kibble until I read how the combination of the two can effect her so now she is just on the S&C's. She used to try to pick the S&C's out of the kibble. I would feed her a strictly raw diet if it were available in this area. Stella & Chewy's makes a frozen raw but it's to expensive to ship to where I live. I am going to check on how much the Wysong frozen dog food is with shipping. I'm sure she would prefer it but for now she loves what she is on.

I feed Royal Canin to all 3 dogs but Bella (doberman mix)& Rocky (lab mix) also get fresh meat. I try not to feed Nova anything but her dog food, yesterday was her first time eating something else (that wasn't my socks) and she was sick mist of the night :( I waited for Bella and Rocky to get out of the puppy stage before introducing the fresh meat too. When Nova gets older I'll probably add it to her diet too. There are certain foods that I feed Rocky (he seems to be a garbage disposal..lol) that I can't feed Bella, she has a sensitive tummy too and that is not fun!

Yes, her dog had an attack of pancreatitis from eating Thanksgiving scraps. Poor baby ended up at the vet on Friday and is now on special food.

Nova threw up 3 times last night, felt so bad for her because after she did it, once in her carrier and twice by the door, she went to her naughty spot (corner in the kitchen that she gets sent to then gated in) and laid down. She slept for about 10 hours then woke up and was her crazy hyper self this morning. She didn't eat this morning until 8 and she usually eats around 5:30-6. I have been giving her water all day to help keep her hydrated. I am hoping since she is acting normal today and everything else is normal (if you know what I mean) that it was a one time thing.

Oh I'm sorry you both had to go through that!
I'm a little late here but we just stared feeding Charlie a raw food diet. He was getting very picky and wouldn't eat his food so we went to our natural pet supply store we love so much and talked to the owner. He recommended raw food, he said dogs usually do well on it and that he's never heard of dogs getting bored of it since you can switch meat without having to worry like you do with kibble. My friend feeds her dogs raw food and one is a shorkie grey both are very healthy.

OMG so I don't know how I managed to miss two big health scares!

Mai Tai, I am so sorry about Mo! I know you've mentioned his stones before, but I didn't realize how serious it was! I hope the surgery works :( I will pray for him. He WILL pull through.

I hope Angel is doing better!
