The date is set!
« on: August 25, 2011, 07:50:39 AM »
Well, my babies Maggie and Max are set to be fixed next Wednesday!!  Of course, I am nervous....UGH!!  My vet said that they will be home the same day.  Gosh, this in and out surgery business is kind of rough, no?  I asked him if Maggie will need a cone and he said no because the stitches are internal.  I think though that I will take some of your suggestion that I have read on here and buy Maggie a onesie just to be sure!!

Oh! Don't you hate the waiting part because then you keep thinking about it and that makes it worse. Good luck !

Gracie did not wear a cone. They asked me if I wanted one and I said no. She licked the incision a few times but that is not a problem. You only need to worry if they start biting at the area and pulling. She was very sleepy the first day and a little better the next day. After that she was pretty much back to normal. I was glad to have her home the same day. My vet does not have someone there at night so I would not want her there over night.

They did put a cone on Ava, she wore it the day we came home.  I went out and bought her onesys and that is what she wore after that, they worked really well.  She did lick a lot even though her stitches were also internal.  She is all healed now and looks great can hardly see it after only two week.

Your dogs will do fine, hugs and kisses from Ava.

Yikes!  Our vet sutures internally too--its GREAT.  If you are worried about her licking her incision or anything, you can spray a tad of the bitter blast, bitter apple, etc...spray on it and it will not hurt her and the furbabies will not lick it!  I am sure they will both be just fine!

I'm sure your babies will be fine but we will pray for them anyway. ;)

Having to have you pet have surgery of any kind is always stressful. You wouldn't be a good doggy mom if you were not a bit concerned. I put off having Gracie spayed for several months because of my own paranoia. Once she was a bit over four and a half pounds I felt more confident about having it done. She was obviously put out at me when I picked her up but she was so tired she just slept most of the day. I think by the next day the horror of her ordeal was a fog. They bounce back like children do. Much better than we do sometimes.

Thanks guys, they went for their bloodwork on Friday.  The vet tech said she has never had two dogs behave so well as they did.  She couldn't believe it, they never said a word or budged.  I am so proud of them!!  ;-)

Good luck to your fur-babies! It's always so nice to get a compliment on them especially from someone who sees so many dogs all the time. When Charlie stayed at the vet 2 weeks ago the receptionist who took him for a walk told us she was so impressed with his training, he never walked ahead of her. I was so proud of my little man! :)

That's awesome Kate!!  After they get fixed, that is the next thing we will be working on...training.  LOL  They are doing great with potty training but when it comes to putting them on a leash, I feel like I have a two ton elephant on the other end not a 7 lb dog because they pull and race ahead of me so fast!!  LOL

Well, going to pick up my babies tonight after work.  Called the vet today at lunch, they said they were doing fine!!  I'll believe it when I see it with my own eyes.... ;)

Give the little darlings a hug and kiss from me and Ava.  I know they will do well at home now.

I bet they will be glad to see you. They will be groggy but by tomorrow they'll be better.
