Raley is depressed.
« on: August 02, 2011, 08:00:16 PM »
For the past month, my son's 3 month old (now 4 months) shihpoo, Lola, has been here.  My son was having to find a new pet friendly place to live so we kept her.  Well, even though we have a 5 year old rat terrier inside with Raley, he is very sad now.  We took Lola home yesterday.  My son lives 150 miles away so its not like we can just have regular play dates.  Anyhow, Raley has barely moved all day. He ate maybe 2 bites of kibble.   I took him out for a ride in the car.  Normally he likes to hang his head out the window but not today.  He laid in my lap.  I feel so sorry for him.  My husband and I have tried to play with him, etc...but he wants no part of it.  Please say a prayer for him if you are a praying person.  Hopefully this will pass soon.  I really feel like crying because he misses Lola so much.

I am a praying person, and I just prayed for Raley to feel better.  Mo went through a depression when my friend took back her dogs after we had them for three months.  He is over it now, but it was sad.  Praying Raley will be back to normal ASAP.

I know all about these dogs and getting attached. My Toby gets so depressed when either myself or my husband is away. He was so depressed when I went away for a weekend to look after my granddaughters he went to our front gate and hollowed for hours. My husband got so worried that he put him in the car brought him to me just to settle him down. When he brought him back home he came inside and went to our bedroom and went to his bed under my side of the bed. The next day he just moped around and barely eat. Then finally I came home and everything was back to normal.

It is really a worry as it seems that as he is getting older he is becoming more attached so I guess we won't be going anywhere without him. :-\

Oh I will pray alright. Can you get him a friend closer to his age? I know you already have two dogs but apparently your little guy liked having a pal he could play with. It might take his mind off his buddy. How about a dog park in your area? Maybe he would like to meet some new dogs. Dogs just hate boredom and sometimes we are not the companions they need to have.

Our community does not have a dog park.  I have a friend who wants to get our dogs together at a local park soon but her's has ear mites right now.  So, tonight I rescued an 8-10 week old bobtail calico kitten.  Normally Raley loves cats.  He has pouted since I brought this little girl home.   :(  Surely we can figure something out soon!  Thank you for the prayers!!! :)

Thank you!  He is doing better.  We actually have our daughters shorkie, Ellie, here with us for now and he loves her.  So, he will be fine for a while.

Sounds like you need to add a new pup to the family. Raley needs someone his age and size to play with. I'm still on the hunt for a pal for Gracie. It's a hard decision to take on another life long friend.

Good news!  Raley is enjoying the new kitten!  I was beginning to wonder because normally he loves cats--but did not like this bobtail kitten.  Now they are good play buddies and he and Savannah, our rat terrier, even share their water bowl with her!!  :)

I was thinking about what you were saying Ellie about Gracie needing a dog her size to play with. I've been thinking about this for awhile for Angel. I saw where I adopted Angel they had four more shorkies to be adopted but they were all males. And for some reason I want a female. Then I was looking at the shih tzu's and they have one female and four males in this one litter. She is so pretty. She is brown and white. And she would be ready to be adopted Sep 15. I'm just telling you guys because my husband would never let me adopt another one and I needed to tell somebody. I don't know if Angel would like another puppy in the house with her or if she would be jelouos. {not spelled right} She loves our outside dogs and they get along great. Her and Mandy play so she has a playmate. Anyways we couldn't afford another one right now. But you know how it is when you see one and you really want it. I guess that's what I'm feeling right now. Anyways I don't know if I could train another one and with Angel right now. It would be hard. Then we would have four dogs and that is alot. Thanks for letting me get it off my chest.

It is a big decision and a big responsibility to add another dog. Gracie has always had cats around but cats for the most part just don't want to play like a dog does. Our youngest cat was a kitten when Gracie was a puppy and they used to wrestle and play a lot but as kittens get older they stop wanting to do that kind of thing. I try to play with Gracie as much as I can but I know she gets bored with me. When I decided to get a dog at first I wanted to adopt an older dog but had no success finding anything like I was looking for. I have been looking to adopt a Yorkie from a rescue agency but they want me to have a fenced yard and I don't have one. Gracie always goes for walks on a leash. I don't want to spend $1000.00 or more for a puppy so I'm at a stand still right now as far as getting a playmate for her goes. I hope something turns up soon. She is very possessive of her toys but I think we could work through that. Most dogs are pretty good about accepting a new dog in the house unless they are quite old.

I am so glad I got a second dog.  Mai Tai is very happy with his pal, and we all love Mo, even though he cost us over 1500 in surgery.  I cannot believe the rescue place won't let you have a dog without a fenced in yard, ellie.  They get a little bit too much sometimes.  Isn't living in a  home with a loving person and other pet friends better than living in a rescue, even if your yard is not fenced in.  I have a fenced in yard, but it does me no good because I cannot leave Mo in it.  He is so tiny, he could get carried away by a hawk.  I never leave Mai Tai alone in it either, as I usually supervise the dogs at all times outside.  Too many places they could dig under.

I think they act so protective like not letting you get a dog without a fence but do they care so much after their  We got Mandy at the humane society and they put is through the ringer. Are you going to keep her as a inside dog. Which we said yes even though we weren't going to. And a ton of other questions. She was a little sick and they said it was a resipiatory illness and send medicine home for her to take. All the other dogs were sick also. Ends up she has parvo disease and when I called back up and told them they acted like they didn't care and cut me off. Where was the caring then? They had to know about it because the other puppies and dogs probably  got it too.
