Scary day yesterday!!
« on: June 23, 2011, 07:12:07 AM »
Ok so I have seen severla posts on here about vomiting.  But seriously, is vomiting common in this breed?

Yesterday when I came home from work, I walked into the house and could smell vomit as soon as I opened the door..... ???  Usually the two puppies greet me from their playpen with loud yips and wagging tails.  This day they were both just laying around looking at me so sad.  When I went over to their playpen, there was vomit EVERYWHERE... all over the crates, the floor, the bedding, the toys, etc.  The hardest thing was, I couldn't tell which dog was vomiting.  I ended up putting them in another playpen and that's when I saw Max vomit like 4 times in less than 5 minutes.  UGH!!  Anyhoo, found out later that Maggie was sick too that morning.  We took Max to the vet and had to leave him there.  The vet ran some tests and nothing came back so that is good.  They gave him an injection of an anti nauseous medicine and he seemed good for the rest of the day.  Maggie was ok, but today she still seems out of sorts.  I guess my confusion is, how could THAT much vomiting not be anything to be concerned about???  I mean can dogs be like kids and get stomach viruses?

Very glad though that it was nothing serious, though I think I may have sprouted a few pre-mature gray hairs from the incident.  ::)

Oh, Junip, what a scary mess.  My dogs don't vomit like that.  They just vomit a foamy yellowish bile every  now and then when their stomachs are too empty.  Mai Tai vomited as you describe once, and it was because he ate a cat toy.  I really hope everything is ok, and that it is nothing serious.

Hoping everything turns out okay for your dogs, that is really scary.  Wonder what caused both dogs to be sick like that.

These dogs have Yorkie blood in them so any illness is cause for concern. Of course puppies have delicate digestive systems and anything they are not used to or things in greater amounts than they usually consume can cause problems. Could they have gotten into something in the yard or the garbage the night before? I don't think vomiting that serous would be caused by nothing. Any diarrhea? I wouldn't give them any treats or chewy things until your sure they are OK and then only a little. Did you give them Greenies? Sometimes things like that can make a puppy sick because they are not used to it.

Yes they so seem to have very sensitive stomachs. I know how scary that must of been. I'm really glad that it wasn't serious. I beleive they are really like kids and you have to expect the same from them as kids.  The only thing is they don't grow up Ha Ha!! :D

Yes, they are doing much better today, thanks!!

I know they did not get into anything from outside.  We always accompany them on their potty breaks and they are on leashes.  They may nibble a few pieces of grass now and then, but we never let them eat alot.  The only thing I can think that might have been the cause is that they had torn into one of their toys and half of it was missing, however, it was a small toy.

Anyhoo, not sure, guess we will never know, just glad that mess is over and that they are back to normal!!  :)

Glad they are feeling better! It is so scary when you don't know whats wrong with them especially since they can't tell you how they feel!
We went through something like that with Charlie a month or so ago, he got the anti-nauseua shot as well. They said it could be due to the nylabone we had for him, they said stuff like that (although it is said to be digestible) can get caught in their small digestive tracts and upset their stomach. So we tossed that & refuse to buy anything like that now.

Really? Your shorkies throw up they yellow stuff too? I thought that was just something that Teddy ate... so that explains why he throws up!
:D I love shorkies, especially T.B. :D

The yellow stuff is bile that is comes from the liver in excess when a dog's (or a human's) stomach is upset. Usually caused by something it ate that stressed the digestive system.
